Re: Garmin updates

As far as I know, updates need to be purchased through Garmin who will supply you with an unlock code that is specific to your device. If you don't get this unlock code, you won't be able to use the updated maps on your device. Garmin used to allow customers to get an additional (total of two) unlock codes for instances where you had more than one device in the family, but this practice was abused, and so they've stopped doing it. Now, you can only get one unlock code per pruchase, but they've brought the price down a more reasonable level of around $70, versus the old prices of about $150

I wish I could think of clever things to say in my signature.

I don't have my Garmin info on this computer but I recall having a choice of "one time update" vs "lifetime of the unit" for about double the one time cost. You do need to go thru Garmin on the web for either choice.

Good luck,

Re: Garmin updates

I recently got mine updated through an ad on CL. Maps are perfect. About half the Garmin price. I have also seen updates on Ebay. Most of these updates are on an SD card and can be moved from unit to unit.

Re: Garmin updates

You can buy the Lifetime option (a credit card with serial number) at a large number of websites, I got mine from Amazon for 95. If you get two updates then you have saved money over the individual updates.
