ZUMO 450 problem

I have a Zumo 450 which has been taking me off road ( dirt) or on gravel roads quite frequently. I ride a lot of back roads in N. Ga and try not to hit the major roads but on almost every trip I end up 5 miles down a road and it turns to gravel (and GPS indicating many miles to the next turn). There does not seem to be a setting which would eliminate this......or is there? I had 08 maps and now the 2010 maps and no improvement. I also don't see any difference in how the gravel/dirt roads look on the mapping software.
This past Sunday a nicely paved asphalt road ended in loose gravel on a sharp left hand turn. Posted speed limit 55 MPH. No signs on the road. No warning on GPS.
Avoidances of unpaved road checked.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: ZUMO 450 problem

There is a selection to avoid unpaved roads. It think it was brought out in a later level of FW so if you do not have a selection to avoid unpaved roads, update your FW to the latest level and then look at the avoidance menu again. Unpaved roads should be in the list that includes 'Toll Roads' and 'U-Turns'. I have a 550 and it is on mine so it should be the same function for mapping on a 450.

Re: ZUMO 450 problem

I appreciate the response but unfortunately I did that the first day I got it. I have written Garmin and the customer support rep sent me a link so that it can be checked on for the 2011 map version. Doesn't really do me a lot of good. Garmin has really been no help at all in this matter. The old GPS on my LT did not do this nor does my Streetpilot. Disappointing for a Garmin product.
