Garmin 2820 Cradle

My StreetPilot III is pretty much kaput as it no longer works off the batteries which is a real hassle when one is trying to download routes into it. It also locks up on occasion and still has proprietary memory cards which need to be loaded with different maps depending on what section of the country you are in. So it has clearly outlived its usefulness. I was looking at a 2820 as some of the newer models such as the Zumo 660 but they don't have all the features I want yet and are a lot higher priced. My question is whether the 2820 will fit in the cradle I have on my bike for the StreetPilot III? If not, does it come with its own cradle? From what I've seen of contents listings for new ones, it seems they only come with the beanbag dash mount.

Re: Garmin 2820 Cradle

I just upgraded from the SPIII to the 2820 and it could not have been easier. My SP III was mounted in the overhead light compartment and I only need a new cradle ($35.00) and wiring harness. I removed the cradle for the SPIII and easily installed the new one. Wiring was easier because the antenna is built in and I reused the audio cable. I like the new software better too. Just finished the IA a few hours ago. Feel free to call if you have any questions. The whole package was a little less than $300.00 new!

So apparently, it is not the same cradle is not the same. Is the power plug the same?

Re: Garmin 2820 Cradle

As Dan has advised, it's all different.

If you're interested, I have a 2820 with the Garmin motorcycle mount that I'm getting ready to list on eBay. GPS, power cable for car and bike, bean bag mount, dash mount, original box, manual, cables, remote, carrying case, etc... Send me a PM with an offer for the whole kit and caboodle. I can send you pics if needed.
