One more 2720 question on Mapsourse

My Street Pilot III was stolen from my car several weeks ago around Venice, Fl., and it's time for a replacement.

The ads for the Gamin 2720 ( most around $125) mention the accessories but nothing on the software that I received with my Streetpilot III for mapping on the PC and then downloading to the GPS. Can this be ordered as an extra? It does not seem to be included. Can the Mapsourse software that I have on my PC be used with the 2720?software

I have a 2720 and use the mapsource I got with my 2610 five years ago. I would hope the one you are getting will come with the latest map set. The 2720 does use the NT map products which the 2610 did not use.

There are a lot of 2720's advertised from $90 to $130 ( really wonder if there is a difference since all are advertised as "Garmin Reconditioned with one year warranty) and the only thing advertised is the GPS and "accessories." Most likely still need the Bike cable and mounting hardware too. I still have my Mapsourse software from my Streetpilot III and hope it's upgraded software will work. If not, then I'll call Garmin for the latest.

Re: One more 2720 question on Mapsourse

Dan, I bought a 2720 off of ebay a couple of weeks ago for $105 and it did come with the software.

I would be interested in knowing exactly what else I need in order to hook it up to my bike.

Have a great ride,

Re: One more 2720 question on Mapsourse

This is from a previous 2720 thread. Pretty sure the links are correct. You'll need the power cord and bracket.

(unit bracket, power/audio cable, screws)

at least it came up yesterday!

Dan, the links are broken. I will search after work and see if I can find the parts you described. Thanks for you help.

Re: One more 2720 question on Mapsourse

Dan, the deal breaker on the 2720 vs. the 2820 for me at getfeetwet.com was the fact that the 2720 comes with an older ('08?) set of maps and no upgrade. The 2820 comes with the newest version ('09?) and an included upgrade for the future. 2820s are a little more expensive, but the map upgrade just about makes up for it. The rep at getfeetwet.com said the 2820s have faster processors than the 2720s. I haven't checked their website since mine came in, so I have no idea if the 2820s are all gone.

Just my .02 worth.

I just checked getfeetwet.com. They still have 2720s, 2730s, and 2820s. Mention all the receivers you've seen purchased from them on our forum and ask for free shipping. Might not get it, but it worked for me.

Thanks Lee for the great follow-up. I'll check out the 2820. Previously I had emotional reasons to upgrade, now it's logical, mu Streetpilot was stolen.

You just didn't lay it out there so somebody would take it, did ya?
Of course not.
I've got a 2720 on the way. Don't know what I'm going to do with the SP III.

Re: One more 2720 question on Mapsourse

I actually ordered the 2820 instead of the 2720 ! I think a faster processor, the latest software and bike accessories for a little less than $300.00. Quite a bit less than the StreetPilot III I bought 6 years or so ago and what a better piece of gear. Can't wait to get it installed.
