Garmin Zumo - 500 or 550?

Hi Folks,

OK, I'm in the market for a GPS, I think I'm settled on the Garmin Zumo, but 500 or 550, that's the burning question.

The only difference I can see from the Specs, is the 550 will talk to you, while the 500 it's just mapping.

I know taking your eye's off the road to look at your satnav is not a great idea, and using the spoken word as a means of direction is probably best, but there is quite a big price difference.

When I've used satnavs in the past ( I do like my paper maps) I've found them a bit of a pain as they seem to interupt my music, or the conversation I'm having with the other half. Should I stump up the extra £££?

Looking for personal experience rather than personal opinion from someone who doesn't use a GPS. Thanks all.

I've had the older model Garmins and now have the BMW Zumo. The text to speech feature is very nice. Hearing the street name/number makes it much easier to identify your turn when you're in traffic and don't want to glance at the screen.

Once you have had the talking GPS you are spoiled and will never go back. It is worth the bucks.

The Zumo 500 does speak to you as far as I'm aware, it however doesn't say "Turn right into Jones street" but just "turn right"
