Garmin 660 is it the greatest or just the latest!

Anyone hear anything good or bad about the new Zumo, it appears that the MSRP is less expensive than than the 550.

I think that's right... But more importantly, it has the larger 4.3" screen.

It has the larger screen but the new screen is also supposed to be a lot better as far as brightness and being able to read it in sunlight. I have a Lowrance ZOG right now and it is worthless in daylight so I will be very interested in the new Zumo.

Re: Garmin 660 is it the greatest or just the latest!

Much discussion on www.zumoforums.com.

I have a 550 so my needs are met but if I run over it this weekend and have to replace it, I might get another one over the 660.

For one thing, there is no XM Radio on the Zumo 660; that's pretty much a deal breaker for me. I listen to XM lots more than the MP3 player.

They also did away with the rubber-covered buttons on the left side. Yes, I know, it's a touch screen but lots of time I use the buttons by feel, keeping my eyes on the road. Yes, I know you should pull over before doing anything with the GPS.

Some of the new features are nice, though.

I wont even consider it if it doesnt have the XM radio. Thats a big mistake IMO.

slight side bar - i got my wife a Garmin 265 TW with the 4.3 in screen - really nice.

You "see" more and the resolution is top notch.

But as Cali_Beemer stated no XM it doesn't go on my bike.

Is that unit weather resistant, how well can you see it on the MC?

That unit IS NOT waterproof. Only the 500 and 550 are waterproof out of the Nuvi family. If you're looking for waterproof with XM then you probably going to want the GPSMAP 640. Screen diagonal is 5.2 inches.

Re: Garmin 660 is it the greatest or just the latest!

Actually the specs list it as waterproof (IPX7). Seems a bit spendy without XM though. So, for $100 less you can get a 550 with XM but a smaller screen.

I don't think much of the Zumo 550 screen. They could do a lot better easily.

Re: Garmin 660 is it the greatest or just the latest!

I have a Zumo 550 and checking the specs. on the 660 I think the 550 is the best bang for the buck. I contacted garmin many times suggesting a few add ons. I wanted a speed controlled volume and would like to see a adjustable speed warning. I thought they might come out with the speed controlled volume on the 660 but zip. Now the TomTom Riders both have Speed controlled volume. Far as the 660 not impressed.

Cool Re: Garmin 660 is it the greatest or just the latest!

Other small difference is the number of routes you can keep on the machine (50 for the 550, 20 for the 660). Specially on a long holiday this might be a problem, unless you carry a laptop around
