Brain Trust Needed....

Hey guys, I want to mount a GPS on my bike ('07 K1200 GT) and I want to mount it right between the handlebars (where the factory mount is located). I see the deal on the Garmin 2820 and it sounds like a great deal. My questions are:

1. Is there another one out there for around the same price or better. I do NOT care about bluetooth capabilities, XM radio, etc. I simply want a GPS that will work well and allow me to download routes from my computer to the GPS using Garmin Mapsource.

2. Is it true that the 2820 does not have the North America maps preloaded on it in entirety? I was told that you can only load a couple/few states at a time. That would suck for long-distance touring.

Any help is appreciated before i take the plunge!

Yea Jack, I'll sell you my 2720 and I'll buy the 2820. The 2720 is the same unit as the 2820 without the bells and whistles you are speaking of.

Also, the 2720 and 2820 come preloaded with all of North America, no need to choose a limited part of the country (continent).

I thought Mike had a 2720 or 2730?

Right now I'm thinking $100 to $150 without having checked the going prices. Your price would be well below the lowest price out there cause I love ya and there is no warranty.

I did John, went with a Nuvi 780, a lot smaller and lighter and had a few more features. I like the msn on it with traffic, flight times, movie times, local gas prices etc.

I recommended the garmin 500 or 550 to Jack as they are both waterproof and do a bit more than the one he has now.

Gotcha Mike.

But Jack, if you are OK with the bulbous 27/2800 series, looks like $75.00 would be a good price for my 2720. It is in perfect condition, all accessories that come in the box, I think the box too .

I am perfectly pleased with the mapping and business database on the 2720. I even haul it around in my luggage when traveling by plane, and also swap it over to our cages.

I'm just thinking of going the blue tooth, XM route if I can get the price trade off right.

Let me know.

Re: Brain Trust Needed....

The 2820 blows away the 27XX with improved turn by turn voice commands. That in itself is worth the extra cash. I also have a 2730, 2610 and 478.
Although limited the XM nav traffic and weather is a good navigation feature on the 2820.
