Which Gps Model???????

Ok all you GPS guru's here is the question! My original gps street pilot III that came with my 02 LT has finally taken a dump on me. If I cant figure it out I will be in the market for another GPS to install on the LT. I basically want the same install features as the old one ie, goes thru the helmet and mounts on my current BMR shelf. So my question is which model GPS should I be looking into installing on my bike?????
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Re: Which Gps Model???????

I presume that the mount your referring to is my BMR shelf? If that is right than yes I am plan on keeping the shelf for the new GPS. As far as the wiring harness, which harness will I need to wire the 2820 into my comm system, because I have seen two different types?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Chipper,

This may answer your question about the SP III, if you haven't already viewed it:
GPS Question Stock Garmin vs BMW model

I've had the Garmin 2820 for almost two years mounted on a BMR Co-Pilot shelf via a Touratech GPS mount and running through the Baehr intercom system. The 2820 is fairly reasonable in price now as compared to when I purchased it should you decide to try it .

When my SpIII took a dump, I replace it with 376C. Removed the four some backet bolts and used the mount that came with 376C. The wire harnest I just tapped into the right plug outlet, which is hot all the time. That way you can mess with the GPS without the key on.

Re: Which Gps Model???????

Thanks guys for all of your comments, opinions and help regarding my GPS. Here is the latest on my GPS. I determined what my problem was, it seems a very tiny screw holding one of the circuit boards in place backed off and was jiggling around inside and across the board shorting out the unit. I put the screw back in tested the unit and it works perfectly. So at this time I wont be buying a new unit however, when it comes time to buy I think I am leaning toward the Garmin 2820
Thanks again,

Re: Which Gps Model???????

When the time does come to buy a new one this company has some good prices and sells rebuilt units with full factory warranties.

I've bought several from them and have no complaints.

Re: Which Gps Model???????

Chipper, I found my 2820 for 423.00 at buyeretail.com
I had to pay about 20.00 in shipping but, still not a bad price for the whole deal.
