Navigator III and Rain

My LT came with the BMW Navigator III. I have been removing it when it rains because it was so expensive and I didn't know if it could get wet. I guess you could say that I just roam around aimlessly in bad weather!! Is it o.k. to leave it mounted in bad weather? Thanks.

Re: Navigator III and Rain

It is the same as a 2720 and I run mine in the rain all the time. There is a moisture issue with condensation on the inside of the screen but it does go away in time. The unit is not water proof but is water resistant to a certain depth. My 2610 was fine as well in the rain.

Re: Navigator III and Rain

The Nav III is very water resistent and, if the screen does as John describes, then Garmin can repair it for you under warranty. They are designed for motorcycles and the weather they encounter.

My Nav II had some screen bubbles after three years of rain and sun and they replaced it and had it back to me in less than a week and IIRC I paid $100 including shipping back to me.

Re: Navigator III and Rain

You know I have ridden in all types of rain and have never taken it off. Most of the time it doesn't even get wet. I have also used it on my boat. Every now and then you might want to get some contact cleaner and make sure the connection is free from any build up. Ride safe!

Re: Navigator III and Rain

Both my Nav II and III are both water and gasoline proof. (Don't ask how I know... ). I have the unit on when washing the bike and the Nav gets washed as well.

But...a word of warning: The touch screen must be handled with care when wet. I once touched the screen with a wet rain glove and the protective film got stuck on my glove and peeled right off.
I nowadays use a soft wooden pointer for punching on the touch screen.
