Navigator III

I just purchased a 09 LT. The dealer bolted on the Motorrad Navigator III system and sent me on my way. However, the Navigator's audio, is not coming into the LT's external audio speakers. Dealer had no idea. Is the Navigator III's audio supposed to be connected to the LT's audio extrenal speakers, or only the bluetooth headset inside the hemets? Thanks,

Re: Navigator III

Nope. The Nav III only makes sound through the bluetooh module on a very expensive Baehr set. I found that out the hard, and most expensive way ((

Re: Navigator III

I have the Nav III and Voice II. The Nav III should only route voice comamnds to the driver's internal headset. That's how the BMW GPS system is wired.

If you have the Voice II, or other bluetooth enabled intercom or headset, you can connect it directly to the Nav III depending on the BT profile it supports. On my system, I have a Motorolla HF-820 (handsfree) kit connected to my Nav III via BT, but hardwired to my phone input on the Voice II. My phone is then connected via BT to the Nav III. This allows me & my passenger to hear voice commands on the Nav III and use the phone.

If you have a BT headset in your helmet, you could try and connect it to your Nav III and get voice commands routed to it directly. If you have another intercom system, you'll need to conenct the Nav III wiring to it's input to get any voice commands.

Re: Navigator III

Thanks everyone. I could not understand why the LT's speakers would not connect with the Nav III audio. Now I know. The system is not set up to interact with the LT audio system at all. Kind of sad BMW does not discuss this important point in "any" of its sales information. I have the BT intercom working now, and our helmets have shook hands with the Nav III just fine. Still a bit upset about not being able to connect to the LT's speakers. Thanks again.

Well it is a bit more complicated then just hooking up the GPS to the sound system. The sound system has to have an interrupter type of circuit to fade out the primary signal and add the GPS signal. That's what the intercom does for you, but if you do not have an intercom there is no realistic way to do it with the stock hardware.

You could try using a high-level impedence fader (if anyone makes one) and a seperate amplifier for the GPS signal. Something like a Y connector for high-level impedence outputs. They do make low-level versionso this type of product. It's used to feed one or more signal to a single input (amplifier), but I think your BT solution is much more cost effective anyway.

Yea... it is designed to work with the Voice II and someone at BMW thought it might be a good idea to charge the same amount for the 2009 as the 2008 and leave out the Voice II system.
I went back to the dealer a week after getting my 2008 and a 2009 was sitting in the same place as mine. The sales person said, "you were lucky, the 2009 is the same price but you got the Voice System in yours". I think the sales people were surprised too with this.
As the others mentioned... Bluetooth is your best cost solution...

Re: Navigator III

yep. I went to purchase an 08 for this very reason (no intercom on the 09's). However, the dealer told me this could be easily resolved with a new Autocom system. This was all true, except nobody told me that once we get all that working, and the Nav III installed and turned on - that the LT entertainment system would work, that the Autocom system would work, but that the Nav III was off all by itself on another planet. It would not work with the 09 LT audio system, and would not work on the Autocom system unless I added BT. Its (nav III) featured on the BMW web site as being plug and play ready on the (factory installed wiring kit) 09 LT's. But, nobody the translation is - all Nav III will do is have power to run, but no audio anywhere. Thanks.

Re: Navigator III

Being that they misled you, they should take the NAVIII back and you might be better off purchasing a less expensive 2820 or 550. No need to pay the extra for their branded product if it is not fully integrated.
I went with the NAVIII because of the integration with the audio system. With adding a radar detector, Sirius and using Aux for iPhone, I'm really limited to inputs.

Re: Navigator III

It works fine today. Without the BT headset, the NavIII features are all but just boat anchors for a motorcycle. BT brings it back to a full functioned unit and I am happy with it now. Just cant figure out what BMW is doing selling it with the 09 LT that has no intercom yet at the same time promoting the NavIII as fully plug and play ready for the 09 LT.
