Autocom Bluetooth Dongle

Where are you folks mounting it?

I'm installing a Zumo on my LT and using the BT dongle to integrate the phone into the helmet headset. Autocom instructions tell you to put it as close as possible to the device it will communicate with and to have no intervening obstructions. I wonder of I need to make room for it on the BMR Co-pilot or whether I can tuck it under the seat. (It needs to be accessible in the event that it needs to be re-paired to the Zumo, so under the nosecone is probably out.)

If anyone has one under the seat, I'd love to know how it's working for you.

I know this may not help you but I just installed one of these on my GT and I stuck it to the front of the fuel tank under the left side fairing. I'll have to take the fairing off if I need to pair again. If I do that I may move it under the battery cover -- I didn't realize how much space was available there on the GT, and it's only 2 screws for the battery cover vs at least 12 for the side.

I did find that the connection seemed stable when the dongle was very far away from the GPS, and I think under the seat would have been fine. I had the side off already to run wires for the accessories. FWIW I keep my cell phone in the smuggler trunk (replaces passengers seat) and it has no problems connecting to my GPS from that distance.

Re: Autocom Bluetooth Dongle

Thanks. That's helpful.

When the last of the bits and pieces for this project arrive I plan to test as well as possible before buttoning everything up again, so I'm going to start with under the seat and keep my fingers crossed. (Zumo + XM on a Co-pilot, sound through the LT's audio system via the radio's auxilliary connector to preserve stereo for XM and speed sensitive volume for XM and the nav. Phone BT to the Zumo and Zumo phone only BT to the Autocom to get the microphone into play for the phone. It's SUPPOSED to work and should keep the override priorities straight. . . we'll see. The only downside I see is that the Nav audio won't be available when using the CD player or stadard radio, since the audio seleciton has to be "Aux". I doubt that I'll much notice. I listen to XM most of the time anyway.
