wiring help

Hi,
I am in need of some help doing a fast wiring job on a 2003 LT.

I am leaving Thursday for a 6 week trip to Alaska on a LT that I should get on Monday. (yea I know that alone is nuts but I did not plan it this way)

One of the problems I foresee is wiring the GPS to a switched source in the short amount of time I have. (that and figuring out if I can pack for 2, handle the weight and balance and a ton of other differences).

Is there an EASY access point I can get to to connect the Zumo GPS wire to that is powered on when the bike is running?

And I already know that I am crazy for making the trip on a bike that is so new to me but I figure if I survive after the end I will be used to the bike, kind of a 'crash course' if you will.

Thanks for listening,

Re: wiring help

Yeah, That's a trip that should be very interesting.

Anyway you can get to switched power at the 'Dash/Map Light' there is both + & ground on it.

Hope this hleps & Good Luck

Re: wiring help

A lot of folks get power for their GPS from the map light that is mounted above the Speedo/Tach. The light assembly just pops out. The brown wire is ground.

If you need to power more than a single piece of electronics, then installing an auxillary fuse panel powered by a switched relay from the battery would probably be a better way to go. There are a number of threads in the hall of wisdom if you need the full meal deal .

Re: wiring help

Thanks,
I will try the light for a quick fix and I plan on getting a fuse box for a permanent solution. My big problem now is time. I leave on Thursday.

No for mounting a standard Zumo mount that is my next problem.

Re: wiring help

THANKS!!
I got it mounted and connected in about a half hour today.

My only question is if you tell a parts person you need something for a BMW do they automatically jack up the price?

Darned expensive mount but I needed it fast.
