BMW Garmin Wiring Pinouts

If you wanted to know what the connections are on the BMW III GPS, here you go. I developed this when I wired a stock Garmin 2610 into the BMW cable.
Now you can sleep better... As the expression goes, use at your own risk. I would like to know if you find something different.

Ron:

A question for you - why did you have to rewire the connection to use the 2610 on the BMW GPS Cradle?

I have been trying to use my old 2610 on a 07LT pre-wired and using a BMW GPS Cradle and I am having problems. The Garmin people have told me that the wiring harness on the BMW is the same for the Nav II and III units (mine is a III setup) - so they thought the problem was a bad connection in the cable. Have a new one on order from my dealer.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Just for info, had the Nav II on for the first year, OEM BMW mount with the extra 4 buttons on the left. Upgraded to Nav III with no issues whatever. Interchanging a 2610 with a Nav II, you loose the use of the extra 4 buttons, also 2820 with Nav III, but all other functions should be OK.

Re: BMW Garmin Wiring Pinouts

I wanted to use the BMW cable from the Nav III so it would be a direct plug into the BMW electrical harness, supplying power and feed the Voice system to hear the voice prompts from my Garmin 2610. The BMW Nav III unit mounts in a special bracket with an additional plug to add more buttons to the left side of the unit. But the standard Garmin 2610 does not have these buttons, so I removed it completely from the round end cable. To make sure I had the correct wiring from the standard 2610 I checked all the wiring connections and generated the drawing you saw just for grins.

Hope that helps. Feel free to holler if you have more questions.
