GPS Noob, Flash Card ?

I just got a refurbished 2610 and need more memory to store the City Navigator info on the unit. From what I have read on this site, I need a certain flash card (Type I ) with 2 GB of memory.

Where is the best place to get this, and how much are they? I have seen some 2 GB Flash CArds on Ebay for 10 bucks, but am unsure if these are the kind that work best. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

I used a standard Sandisk 2 gig compact flash card when I had my 2610. It held all the maps which I transferred from the MapSource program. I know Kingston cards worked okay also. Look for sales at your local electronic stores, I've seen them recently for under $15.

Here is one for $7 plus $5 for shipping at:

You may be better off with one of the name brands as Kingston.

Re: GPS Noob, Flash Card ?

Thanks for the information guys...

mtrevelino.......the SD flash card in the link you sent for 7 bucks is not the kind of card that was in the 2610, it is bigger.
Like this. http://www.buy.com/prod/Kingston_Tec.../10390647.html

What makes these worth 55 bucks? Are they worth the extra money. I know nothing about the differences. Thanks.

Re: GPS Noob, Flash Card ?

As a former 2610 owner and avid experimenter, I tried several CF cards in my 2610. The 2610 supports BOTH Type I and Type II flash cards. The Type II flash cards are thicker because they are actually kinda like a mini harddrive. Many people recommended to avoid a Type II card, but at the time they were so much cheaper, and I just couldn't help myself. So I bought me a 2.2GB Type II by magicstor. After many, many miles of use on my LT, it didn't fail me one single time. The one drawback to large CF cards is they will make processing on a 2610 a little slower. But it is mighty convenient having the whole country on one card.

Now that I have the 2820, I have no need for the CF cards anymore. So, these CF cards that are just taking up space here. I have a 2.2GB Type II, a 128MB Type I, and 2) 64MB Type I cards. They can all be yours for ... how's $20 sound?
