2820 mount on 2008 K1200LT?

Ok one simple question I hope!

Will a Garmin StreetPilot 2820 fit directly onto the factory mount that now comes on the 2008 LT's? I have this GPS but haven't taken delivery on my new bike (the dealer is 2-1/2 hrs away and it is very much winter here!)

I tried finding this answer, but gave up searching. (sorry to ask again if its already been answered)

I was told, or read on here, that the 2820 is the same model as the BMW GPS. I am (very much) hoping that the mount and wire connections will match the back of my 2820!

thanks in advance guys

Joe

Re: 2820 mount on 2008 K1200LT?

My 2006 has a mount that will fit the Navigator III (same as 2820), but I thought the new models were configured for the BMW branded version of the Zumo 550.

I am pretty sure the dealer told me the mount was designed for the BMW Nav III...

If so, then it should fit as the Nav III is the same unit as the 2820 minus a few features from what I understand.

Based on the 2008 LT that I saw at the recent Chicago International Motorcycle show, the "factory mount" is the same one that is on my '2007. I assume that is the case with your LT as well.

If so, you will ony need to buy the Garmin motorcycle mount for your 2820. The factory mount is the base to which a Garmin motorcycle mount connects to the bike. The factory gps prep kit that is part of your purchase includes the connecting cable to provide power from the bike and to interface your 2820 with the Voice II intercom. The prep kit also has a round ended connector cable that you will not use with your 2820. I tucked that cable under the factory mount cover for the base. That cover is only for use with the NAV III and its special mounting bracket.

Here is a link to the Garmin site so you know what to look for:

Assuming no major changes to 2008 from 2006, here's a fully implemented 2820 on 2006 with nav prep and Garmin mount. Scan down a bit for images.

Re: 2820 mount on 2008 K1200LT?

thank you guys for the answers and the great photos (and link). I was hoping that I didnt have to buy anything else- BUT, such is not the case. In my mind, in a perfect world, the GPS I have would have just mounted, and fit on the BMW supplied base without the hassle of additional conversion parts and pieces. I really should of known better to think it would!
Thanks again to all for the replies.

Re: 2820 mount on 2008 K1200LT?

just finally took delivery of my bike (free delivery to my home from the dealer in Grand Rapids!) and the first thing I did was mount the GPS. What a piece of cake! All my previous worry and concern that it would require added parts and pieces and different electrical connections were put to rest. lol
Looks great- as if it came from the factory! I hid that extra wire connection under the cover- so nothing is sticking out.

Now if the weather/temp/forecast would just improve even just a little bit here...

thanks again guys for the replies and guidence

Great to hear it worked out; it's straightforward and quick to attach the pieces. And fear not ... it's mid 50s F and raining here today on this side of the state, so you'll be out enjoying that new scoot before too long.

The only thing left for you to do is get on that bad boy so you can get that permanent smile tattooed on your face like the rest of us.

That keeps you from riding? Must be a Michigan thing.

Nah ... just letting him know that my side of the state was rideable and therefore it couldn't be long for even nicer days in his climate zone as well.
BTW, that post was some time back now, we've all logged thousands of miles in a beautiful spring in SE MI; don't tell anyone, but the weather here is great --- all that stuff you see on TV -- record snowfall, blizzards, ice, you know .... that's just to discourage people from flocking in and overpopulating the place.
