Thumbs up Another custom setting in my Garmin 2820.

Now that you have your data fields customized the way you like them (see this thread if'n you don't), here's another setting that I've experimented with recently and really like it. Even while using the 2820 in the car!

The 2820 has three Keyboard "Entry Type" settings.
  1. ABCDEF - (The keys are in alphebetical orde.r)
  2. QWERTY - (The key layout looks like your computer's keys.)
  3. Large - (This is what I'm talking about!)
Give this setting a try for a few days, and I'll bet you don't go back to your old setting. Here's what to do:

Go to the Main Menu and press the Settings button.

Then the General button.

Then the Keyboard button.

Then the Entry Type: button.

Select 'Large' and press the OK at the bottom.

Now, whenever you have to type a name, number, or address into the GPS, you'll have a whole different keyboard layout. The keys are much larger, which makes them easier to hit when you have gloves on. It takes a little getting use to scrolling up & down to find the letter you want, but once you do, I think you're going to like it. Better than hitting all those wrong keys!

TRY IT!!! You just might like it!

Re: Another custom setting in my Garmin 2820.

Just tried this and mine doesn't list qwerty for a choice. It has large which was what my choice was. I must have missed an update. What is the latest firmware? I know I did an update in the software for my 2730 which gave it a qwerty keyboard. Just went to the Garmin site ands updated to the latest ver which is 4.40. Thanks for the info Joe.

I use the WebUpdater software. Easier than going to Garmin.com, finding the software updates, downloading, then installing.
