Just went to the Dark Side

Gotcha! No, not that dark side. Just switched to a Mac at home, and so far I think it's going to be a good ride. It's different for sure and a little bit of a learning curve, but overall is looking good. I know Garmin has recently released some software purporting some sort of compatability, but for now I am keeping Mapsource on my Windows laptop and haven't pursued it. Have any of the Mac'ers out there downloaded this stuff and is it working? Does it allow Mapsource to be loaded onto the Mac for full functionality or is it strictly for map transfer? Or what exactly? There is some software out of the UK...RouteBuddy... that proclaims to be designed for the Mac and to seemlessly load waypoints, routes, etc. onto most units, but I haven't done anything about it either. A little pricey at $150 for the software and a U.S. mapset, if you ask me.

Garmin has some Mac software, but none of it is the GPS stuff that you need.

Most guys run XP under Parallels Desktop software and say it works very well. Of course, you still need a valid XP license and the Parallels software so the cost does add up quickly.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Now, now; but I have to agree, in that I knew a guy here locally who was a MOPAR rep and at the time he was pretty lame. For me the Mac is a leap of faith for sure, but when they say "it works", they are right. VROOM-VROOM!

Oops

[QUOTE=meese]Garmin has some Mac software, but none of it is the GPS stuff that you need.

Flash - this in incorrect . . .

Garmin is currently in the process of porting over Mapsource and maps to the MAC - I am currently running the Beta mode at this time - Mapsource is called BobCat you can get it here . . .

http://www8.garmin.com/support/down...ils.jsp?id=3886

There is also transfer software that compresses the maps on the PC and then uncompresseses on the Mac thus you can run on a MAC in native mode - just like on a PC note the MAC does not require an Intel based model. I am running on a MacMini G4 Tunning Tiger 10.4.1 on a 1.42 ghz machine

On a slightly unrelated note only problem I have found is using WebUpdater trying to install firmware updates on the MAC. Locks up the GPS - mine is a 376c.

See this post for more info:

http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31690

Just note this is beta and I have left Garmin several notes as they prepare to go full time!!

Michael, That is the single, most funny video I've seen regarding this whole OS war. Thanks for sharing!
