Streetpilot III Screen Amoeba

My trusty Streetpilot III suddenly developed a screen problem this week. There is a big transparent yellow blob in the center of the screen which makes it very difficult to read what is underneath. This blob appears immediately upon powerup. Resetting does not solve the problem.

Does anyone have an old Streetpilot III with a good screen that they are scrapping? I'd like to try swapping out the screen before giving up on this unit.

Regards...Barry

Isn't it nice to ask a question and get a smartass answer back.

I'm looking for a donor Streetpilot myself. I had some water intrusion problems with my original unit after 4 years on the Bike. I suspect the water came from the seal around the screen as it was fogging before the failure. When I opened it up the case seal was OK but water dripped out of the screen side. If I could find some parts (CCA's) I'd like to try and see if I could get mine back working again. If I find one I'll keep you in mind.

I found a form/fit/function replacement on an eBay store for a pretty good price. I've got the BMW mount where the light used to be. I didn't want to go through the hassel of looking for a new mount and running new wires for a different unit if the same one was still available. My radar detector mounts on the GPS mount so I would have been looking at a larger rework project if I had to replace the original GPS with another model.

Wink BMW GPS Mount works for multiple Garmiins

FYI Bill, the BMW mount which holds the SP III will work just fine for the Garmin 26xx, 27xx, & 28xx units as well! They have the same 4 bolts as the SP III does for the mount.

I am using the same mount that I used for my old SP III for my 2720 with no prob, and a Hell of a lot quicker re-calculating!!

It wasn't an "answer", but an observation. And you squeak too . . . and I fart in your general direction.

Now . . . how do I over-clock this 286 so I can run Windows 3.11 on the thing?

And then there's Joe. A legend in his own mind.

It was much nicer here without him.
