Zumo install

I just ordered a new Zumo 550 for my 07 LT. I should get it tomorrow (Wed) and hope to leave on a trip on Thurs. Any installation tips would be greatly appreciated. What needs to be taken off the bike to wire the unit and how is that done? I won't have a lot of time so any help from you guys would be nice.

I installed the Zumo on my 07. The factory power supply for GPS that is on your stingray does not fit the Zumo. I removed the stingray and wired the Zumo to a switched fuse block (installed earlier). I just zip tied the factory provided wire below the stingray after taping up the contacts. That way, should I ever sell the bike, it is still GPS prepared for a standard Nav II or III.

You may want to go to your local BMW dealer and get the square nuts and bolts for mounting a Nav III to the factory prep'ed mount. The Zumo lines up with the provided mounting surface and works well there. It is not a difficult install.

Thanks for the feedback. Tell me a little more about this fuse block. Where would it be connected to and what needs to be removed to install it.

Another option is to connect the power cable to the map light using piggyback spade connectors (available at Radio Shack). There are several posts if you search for them.
