Hard to believe, so I checked it out for myself. That unit's MSRP is $1,184; sells elsewhere for $830 (gpsnow.com).

Is this legit? Has anyone dealt with that site?

Hi Joe,
I take it you're still waiting out some bad weather down there.

That price is "cwazy". Less than half of the typical street price? I'm looking hard at GPSs and the StreetPilot 2730/2820 were on my short list. Others on that list are 378/478 twins (they differ only in which set of nautical info is included).

If I had a way to install it at CCR I'd have the vendor ship it there!

Question about the Garmin 2820

Does the 2820 transmit the MP3 and audio book through the FM system of the vehicle like the 2730 or does it play it from the external speaker?

That to me would make a big difference. I checked the Garmin web site and it really doesn't say on the 2820 other that it has bluetooth.
Anyone have an answer?

Thanks
Mike

See www.gpsnow.com. Tons of good info on the Garmin products, with informative side-by-side comparisons.

The prices on these things are dropping fast.

Costco had the 2730 for $699 now this... I think the competition must be getting fierce... I really like the Garmin stuff..

I've got a BMW Motorrad NavigatorII (aka Garmin 2610), with the BM mount with 4 extra buttons - they let you use most of touch screen functions with gloves on. Anyone know if the later versions of the Garmins will still support these buttons??

Well, I have a receipt in hand for a purchase of a 2820 at $373. I'm half-expecting them to call me on Monday to say they made a mistake, etc. I hope not.

Glad to pass on irresistible deals....I have a Street Pilot III that I'm perfectly happy with..use it all the time when driving my charter bus, had no real plans in the near future to upgrade. BUT then this came along & thought what the heck, can't pass this up. I have one on order & hope everyone who got an order in gets its.

No. Only the BMW-badged units support the extra buttons. Regular Garmin units will fit into the cradle, but the buttons won't function.

All I can say is that I have bought many items from this vendor in the past and have had no problems. As soon as I saw that price, I just HAD to jump on it. I was about to upgrade to ver8 maps, and that would've cost $75 anyway. So I figure I got this unit for $298. FWIW, I also bought the 3-year warranty for $17.95. What a bargain! It should be waiting for me when I return home from CCR. I'll report back ASAP.

Garmin 2820

For those of you who have ordered the 2820 from the website had better call them. I got a confirmation of my purchase. I just got off the phone with them and by the sound of the customer service rep's voice its a mistake. They told me that we're all out of stock. Lets see if anybody really gets one at that price.

I had ordered mine early yesterday. (Sunday)

good luck to you all!

hell, if anyone else orders, get an extra, they are running over 800 on ebay right now, you could easily pay for the one you keep, then have enough left over for the $275 cable you're gonna need to purchase if you want to use XM, the traffic or weather functions (the cable comes with the 2730)

I got the same message from Compuplus, after getting a confirmation email, etc. To quote Rock, this is a Nazi move.

Would have been nice if they had the integrity to say they screwed up in their email. Or better yet -- honor the price for the few they sold at $373.

For some reason I can't email out of Chateau Elan so I'll have to call them. Doubt it will provide any satisfaction.

Oversold ??? Must be they got in another shipment...

I wish they had just said it was a mistake and I'd probably bought one at this price.

Boy, I guess so!!!

I know what I would do if I were Garmin and monitored this 'breach of ethics' thread??

Found this in the 'disclaimer' section of the Compuplus' Customer Service page.

"We are not responsible for typographical errors, even if an invoice was issued in error."

I think they knew that wouldn't work as an excuse in this situation - too obvious fodder for a good lawyer or judge. So they used the 'oversold' excuse!! Wonder how many units they sold at the $373 price?

Dam - I'm gettin' too cynical in my old age!!

You cannot really blame them if some $5.50 an hour data entry typist entered the wrong price, and expect them to sell a high dollar item at a loss.

Maybe not, butt if that's what happened, then say so. They say they aren't responsible for typos. Why say they sold out, when responding to orders?? I have no patience nor respect for liars.

The "inventory error" is what ticked me off. Why not just say due to an error in our listing or something legit.

I do not expect anyone in business to sell at a loss, nor would I hold someone to a contract or other agreement if a true mistake / error was made.

Honesty is the best policy.

Many of the on-line rating services use honoring the price on their web site a major rating criteria. CNet says something about honoring price on web site without question or hassle (paraphrased). Of course an inventory error wouldn't count.
