Assistance if you can - Garmin 2730

Been learning the new unit, loaded some MP3's, listening to Audiobooks getting ready to take tupperware off and rewire the bike, installed the new mounting bracket - all is good!!

Well not exactly the unit has locked up on the Main Screen "Loading Maps"

Any of you 2730 users been faced with this problem.

I did do a restart with the "find" button down to erase all "user info" but this did not remedy the problem . . . . hmmm.

From a technical perspective these units are much more complex that the StreetPilots of old and I am hoping this is an anomaly . . . I have sent in a request for the RMA but looks like if I can not get it fixed over the phone I will be using my trusty of SPIII at CCR 2006!!

I also hacked into the operating system (Power Up with Menu button depressed) and from what I see looks like someone more technical needs to tell me what to do next . . .

Help - if you can!!!

Garmin help

Not having a Gramin I cannot give you guidance from experience. But as with most FRED's go back to the start, turn the unit of and remove the battery if possible. Take it of the mount, take out the SD card or any other bit you do not really need. Turn it back on and give it time to start up. If that works turn it back of then add on the SD card etc. Try it again. Does it work? Turn it of then put it in the mount. Does it work?

Sometimes it is just slow - take your time.

Cool Thanks

Graham,

This would be good advice for a unit that has batteries and SD cards . . . the 2730 has neither!

It has a microprocessor complete with an operating system, on board RAM that has the entire country map (US or Europe) loaded, free RAM to load MP3's and Audio Books, XM radio interface along with traffic, weather and stocks!! - that is alot of stuff . . . most likely it would drain batteries in a heart beat!!

I am hoping that telephone support will resolve - however as everyone knows here in the US you must wait 1/2 hour just for the privilege to talking to support!!

I have been pleasantly surprised by Garmin support, they have been very good and quick to help.
