I don't have a 2730 but I have a 2610 and it uses the same mount. I ordered the mounting plate and cables from Garmin, and then I ordered the the actual mount from BMW. The plate mounted perfectly to the BMW mount. I didn't order the mount cover because I couldn't get it in the right color for a 2002, but for your 2005 that shouldn't be a problem.

how much was the mount from BMW, and does it allow for easy removal of the GPS?

I will be switching mine back and forth between the LT and the "cage," and also HATE the idea of leaving it on the bike in view of thieves--so being able to pop it off and lock it in the trunk is what i am after...

Help?

Get the motorcycle mount kit

Then you'll be able to move it around as you like..

Here's pics of mine..

is that a BMR shelf? If so, how much work is involved in mounting it? And is there a source for one for less than $115?

It's been posted several times on this site that Costco.com has the 2730 for $699 for members (you could probably schmooze someone you know for their member#, no?)

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...v=&browse=&s=1

You might want to check it out there before spending any extra $$ for the same item (and it's said they'll take returns at the store w/o any hassles).

Good luck!

Shelf

No it's not a BMR it's the other one. Can't remember the manufacturer right now.

Someone will chime in with it. I think it's about 85.00.

I honestly think the BMR is better and worth the extra money..

This one mounts without drilling holes but is not as secure as the BMR...

I recently posted this thread showing my mounting solution using the RAM handlebar mount:

http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12124

It takes a little work, but I am very happy with the results. It is somewhat versatile, as shown in the pics. It is also really easy to remove the unit or the whole cradle (leaving just the rubber ball and wires). The wire has a 1/8" audio jack. I haven't hooked up the audio yet, and might not for some time.

Very easy, you unlock it with a special "screwdriver" then snap it's off. The garmin part with the cable was $35, the BMW parts without the painted cover were about $40, the painted cover was $90 (ouch!) I have seen another one that is black metal that was only $15, but it vibrates and makes it hard to see the screen. I use it on both my bikes and in my Suburban.

Are you going to be at the Tech Session on Saturday?

Paid $115.00

Just installed it last week. Takes about 30 minutes for the shelf. Drill three holes with supplied spade bit, insert rubber cinch nuts, screw it in. Done, easy, works great also eliminates some of the glare form the dash on windshield. Mounted my garmin in another 30 minutes.
