How has the cloud cover been when you notice it? I seem to get drop outs on my Roady2 when the sky is full of dark clouds. You may have a bad antenna puck (that is actually where the xm unit resides).

look at the bars

Look at the bar display when the XM radio player is open..

This should give you some clue as to the signal strength..

If it's only one bar, you might have a bad puck...Or just live in a bad location..

Is there a separate XM antennae for the 2730? If so, where is it mounted?

I have a Roady on my bike and the antennae is mounted on top of the luggage rack on the top case with velcro. It gets a pretty good signal there, but I think that power lines mess with it sometimes. Other than that, I have only had problems in the mountains of Wyoming. The antennae that I have is either the smallest or one of the smallest they make. It is about 1" X 1.5" X .5".

So, give us some more detail on the setup.

the antena is located on the dash above the dash light, the same place my roady II was located with perfect reception. BTW I have a powered antena mounted under the wind screen cowling.

Sounds bad

You almost have got to have a bad puck then. Mine's mounted on the shelf right beside the unit and I get wonderful reception most all the time..

I'd say give Garmin a call and discuss it with them. You may have to send the whole unit in so they can check the 2730 as well as the XM puck.
But as I understand it the XM receiver is in the puck..

Good Luck

Man do I feel DUMB, my three other XM's all tune to 88.3 and that is where I was trying to tune in on the 2730,when I did a freq. to freq. search I ended up a 107.9 and the " rain fade" went away, and I still feel DUMB.

Good

Not that you feel dumb.. You'll get over that...

Good that you figured out the problem. One of my favorite sayings is........

We humans always want things to be more difficult than they ususally are....

I always look for the simple things first and usually find the trouble.

Glad you got it figured out...
