Eratic Nav III

I'm beginning to think I have the only Nav III with this problem since no one at Garmin seems to have heard of it. My screen will switch from the map, to the "Save in Favorites" screen, or to the Calibration Screen, or to any one of the other screens on the system all by itself. It has been doing this since I bought the bike in 07. Oh, it's an '07 LT. I began calling Garmin when it started, about 6 months after I bought the bike, and was given all sorts of things to try, hard restart, reset, new software, updated software etc., none of which worked. By that time it was out of warranty so they won't help. On top of all that I now find out that my "Lifetime Map Subscription" is no longer valid because Garmin doesn't support the 2820. I'm starting to think Garmin sucks. Has anyone had any similar problem? Any fixes? Or should I just use this for a paperweight and go find another $700 piece of equipment ?

Re: Eratic Nav III

Try covering the IR window with some black electrical tape.
IIRC on the LHS. Redish in colour.
Sometimes that helps, esp. in low sun angles.

Thanks Hilton. That was one of the many Garmin suggestions that doesn't do anything. It also does this at night.

Re: Eratic Nav III

If it's any consolation, my '07 Nav III has been doing the same thing for the last couple of weeks - very frustrating...

Re: Eratic Nav III

Garmin probably won't want to repair.
Perhaps a call to here might help.

Haven't used them myself but might save some $$$

It's a rebadged 2820 ( with some changed bells and whistles )

Cheers

It's worse than frustrating, it's a safety hazard to always have to take your hand off the handlebar to press the map or esc button to get back to where you were. But I think we're SOL as far as Garmin is concerned. They won't even deal with them any more.
