garmin 2820 ... feedback?

maybe i've been totally out of the loop, but i'm pretty amazed by the new 2820 from garmin:

http://www.garmin.com/products/sp2820/

among its features: integrated bluetooth, cell phone link, and XM radio. has anyone tried this unit yet? is there a bluetooth headset that works well with it?

on the surface, it seems to be a seamless solution to a number of electronics issues.

Every time I think I know which GPS to buy, Garmin introduces a new StreetPilot model with better features. I have had my eye on the 2730 for a while, then I saw the 2820, which appeared to have all the features of the 2730, plus Bluetooth. My present phone is not Bluetooth ready, and I already have an intercom system, but I thought the 2820 might be a better unit in the long run.

I was surprised to see that the "preorder" price on the 2820 was less than that of the 2730. I knew that was too good to be true, until I learned that the 2820 does not include the gee-whiz antenna that you need for the XM Radio/XM Weather subscription, which costs about $210 separately. It is standard with the 2730.

Got my 2820 in the mail earlier in the week. Flawless performance with bluetooth with the Cardo and Motorola headsets. Pairing it with my blackberry 8700g was super easy. The unit itself is very fast, especially when compared to my 2610. I got the GXM30 as well and the XM radio is very nice to have in one integrated unit.

More info as I discover more features.

pdarke,

Aside from the BT and other added functionality, is the basic GPS function better than the 2610? Can you do everything you did on the 2610 plus more?

Thx in advance,
Lee

Re: garmin 2820 ... feedback?

Are you also using the XM radio with your Cardo headset. I'm looking to purchase a 2820 but no one is able to tell me for sure if I'll be able to hear directions, listen to XM and answer a call. I don't expect to do all of these at the same time. Normally I expect to listen to XM while driving and have the GPS cut in to give me directions. Is this a reasonable assumption with the 2820?

Re: garmin 2820 ... feedback?

I use the Garmin 2820 paired with a Camos 600 Bluetooth Headset and I get Nav directions, Telephone and Music. Not sure if it's the same when paired with Cardo/Motorola.

Re: garmin 2820 ... feedback?

Getfeetwet.com has a refurbed 2820 paired with the GMX30 antenna for $499 and it has a 3yr warranty. My friend just got one, what a deal.

Re: garmin 2820 ... feedback?

Ditto what BoB said. I have the unit set up with the Camos and it works great. Of course I had to purchase a newer Blackberry, I had the 7100 and the BT software wasn't compatible, who knew. The 8100 works great. Now if they would just get the Camos BT Adapter functioning right everything on the LT will work through the headsets.
