Hall of Wisdom

This is an index of posts that were previously contained within the K1200LT.net/BMWLT.net Hall of Wisdom (HoW) forum, which was started as a repository for "exceptionally good articles, hints and tricks" and "a place to store technical tips and riding hints" (quotes taken from Joel Gringorten/kdog's forum notes). The HoW does not contain detailed product descriptions of the numerous gadgets that are available for the KLT - check the Accessories Page for these. In an attempt to make the forum more user-friendly, construction of an index began in mid-2004. This index seeks to provide direct links to the most pertinent posts within relevant threads, by displaying threads in 'Threaded', rather than 'Flat' format. It is of course easy to click the 'Flat' link at top right of each linked post, should members wish to read the entire thread as one continuous document.

Following completion of the first edition of the HoW index, all of the posts previously in the HoW forum were transferred into other forums, primarily into the main (K1200LT) forum. At this time the HoW forum became little more than a location for the index. Until August 2005, the index was published as first one and later two separate posts within the HoW forum. Splitting the index into two posts was not desirable, but was unavoidable due to the site software limiting the size of individual posts. Since it was likely that the index would have to be split further into three or more posts as it grew, an alternative solution was sought, and finally in mid-2005 this new site location for the index was agreed with the site administrators. This has the advantage of better HTML features (such as more flexible formatting and linking), as well as giving easier access to the index from anywhere within the site.

The layout of the index is similar to the structure of BMW's K1200LT Repair Manual, in the categories chosen for 'Customisation', 'Maintenance' and 'Troubleshooting'. 'Accessories' required different categories, but uses a similar number (15 or so) of categories. The HoW is not intended to replace the Repair Manual, but rather to supplement it, so don't expect to find detailed description of maintenance procedures etc. here. Links are arranged in chronological order, so later links are to more recent posts. Some of the links provided in the index are to very early posts dating back to 2002, when this site was first started. Much of the information contained within these posts is still pertinent today. Some changes occurred following introduction of the revised K1200LT in 2004 ('05 model in the USA), and so the index has some '05-specific categories.

Suggestions for new items to include in the index are always welcome, as well as notification of broken links, suggestions for improvements etc. Please email all comments to: [email protected]
