Re: Saltburn - 2012

hi folks
you can put me on the list too, no more jokes about the datum.
woudnt a poll be worth a try? just to see what those guys think that do not post what they want. maybe a tour through the south with 2 or 3 hotels. come on we can handle that.

Will you be shipping your bikes over or renting? I. Will be coming over to your area late summer and wondering which is best. We will be there about 4 weeks. Enjoy your trip to the states.

Re: Saltburn - 2012

We may arrive looking a bit ragged! We're planning a trip through France, Germany and Austria to the Asiago Plateau in northern Italy - to see some World War One battlefields - just before the meeting. First thoughts on stopovers on the way out are St Quentin (more WW1 battlefields!), Karlsruhe and Bolzano (the Iceman) before crossing into Italy. Not sure about the run home yet.

Good to be thinking about next year with the awfull winds we are having at the moment Keith. The sea was crashing over the sea wall and it was difficult to make out the road and path here yesterday on the front.Great to watch though as long as your all wrapped up.

Re: Saltburn - 2012

I don't envy you, Phil. It was bucketing down here and blowing hard yesterday but nothing remotely like what was coming up on the TV from northern England and Scotland. I hope your house didn't suffer any damage.

We always try to plan things well in advance so we don't risk biting off more than we can chew. The original idea was to take an early-morning ride through the Chunnel and go to Strasbourg, stay for a couple of nights and then go on via Innsbruck, where we'd stay another couple of nights. By taking an afternoon train we can get 100 miles into France and cut down the subsequent distances a bit. Although I'm going to look at some WW1 sites, the Asiago Plateau itself looks absolutely gorgeous.

I went over the St Gotthard Pass years ago in a mini-bus and saw a Gold Wing come sweeping down the curves as we stood at a viewpoint. I'd like to take Ruth that way and come back up through Switzerland and France, perhaps stopping over at Paris, as we did in the mid-nineties, and see Versailles, for example, but that's still to be settled.

Keith

Not as far as I am aware Paul it would have been nice to have a couple of meetings a year.Perhaps we could put our heads together in July and come up with another if nothing happens before.

I must have missed this post earlier somehow.Organised runouts are now a thing of the past because of the insurance laws that are now in place.
However there are a couple of us going to Beamish and for those that went last year its free to get in if you still have your ticket.
There are 2 aircraft Museums one at York and one near Newcastle.
There is the maritime museum at Hartlepool thats well worth a visit.
North Yorkshire moors are just up the road with Heartbeat country close by aswell.
Whitby Scarborough Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are all nice places to go to though not very far away.
Eden Camp is also well worth a visit for those that have not been before.
For those that would like to travel further its a good road to the lakes or even Holy Island can be reached in about 2 hours.

Re: Saltburn - 2012

HI All,

Good to see most of the gang I met in Saltburn in 2010 are going again... Sadly, like last year the dates clash with a festival I go to in Suffolk - so I am out of the picture again for this year.... Would be grateful if someone could send me a PM if another date and venue for this year is chosen - would be great to see you all again.

All the best,

Andy and Vix
