Metzerler tyre shortage .

Did you know that there are no metzeler front tyres in the UK to fit the LT . The last batch produced was in June but the good news is that they have started production in the last couple of days which means they should be over here in the next couple of weeks .

Re: Metzerler tyre shortage .

I found the same problem, so I've switched to Avon Storms, so far so good.

Same situation in Germany. Additional problem is the point that only two tire brands are approved from the "German MOT§" - called TÜV. It is Metzeler ME 880 and Bridgestone.

I thought the Metzeler brand was owned/made by Pirelli and Pirelli is a pretty good sized company --- but to run out of inventory of the one-of-only-two brands ok'd in the home country of the motorcycle manufacturer?!?! Wow!!!

Re: Metzerler tyre shortage .

It's happened before. My bike came with Metzelers but I had to swap to Bridgestones in 2006 when my dealer couldn't get me a new front tyre before we went to Europe. I couldn't risk the holiday trip on the remaining tread so I had no choice. I knew that there would be a Metzeler presence at the Garmisch meeting but there was no guarantee that they'd have the tyre with them, either. It's a worry that there are only two types of rated tyre for the bikes and that could be the end of the bike before BMW stops producing spare parts. I know that others have used different tyres but I get the impression that the Mark 2s are less forgiving. I'm also unsure what effect it might have on my insurance. Those folks will use every possible excuse not to pay out.

WOW ! I had two Metz in the garage as spares and just installed the rear. Front still has another 4-5,000 miles to go. Let me know if anyone is in an immediate need for a front..

I am on my second set of Avon Storms. Love them, prefer them to all others now.
