Bike Tour From Munchen

Hi

The Wife and I retire shortly and are exploring the idea of buying a second hand 800/1200 GS with panniers and touring from Munchen to Rome. Is there someone in Germany that can perhaps point us in a direction of (1) where to look for a bike (2) where to stay (the cheapest rates of course!) (3) possible pitfalls.
We are bikers - i.e. nor fussy, and would rather like to get to know the people than to stay in "lofty" places - after all - we will only be sleeping over.
We are members of the South African Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and would like to meet with like minded people along the way.

Regards

Francois

Here is link to BMW MOA list in Germany

I rented from Martin BMW in Bad Tolz Germany about an hour South of Munich. the dealer was well stocked and had a good selection of rental bikes. My rental R1200GS had 4500 miles at the beginning of the trip...

Rooms...not a problem... and July can be busy...but saw plenty of overnight Zimmers (Bed and Breakfast)....

What a ride and what a trip....enjoy.....have a safe ride

Hope this helps...

Francois;

Glad to hear you are doing well............I don't have much to add to this thread but on the other hand would not wish to miss the opportunity to wish you and yours a 'Merry Christmas'
