Dolomite / Alp advise

Hi All

I am picking up an RT in Milan in mid June for a rip to the Dolomites and I would really appreciate any advice on which passes are must do's. Oh if you know of anything as a must see in the area....that is fair game too.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dolomite / Alp advise

My wife and I spent 3 weeks running around the Alps and Dolomites a few years back. We didn't use a tour operator and never had any trouble finding decent accommodations and great food.

Be sure to pick up a copy of Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps & Corsica by John Hermann. It is a fabulous resource for motorcyclists, and you can really build up the excitement level by doing some pre-planning in the evenings before your trip.

And take lots of pics so you can share on your return.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: Dolomite / Alp advise

Yammer,
Never thought I'd ride the Alps on a Beemer but my wife and I did a maiden tour with Adriatic a couple of years ago. There were only two other riders (one was 2-up) so it was a custom tour.
Stayed at many great locations and the kick-off was from Milan to Lake Cuomo with a ferry across to Switzerland.

A couple of days we went off by ourselves and never had a problem finding unique restaurants ending up at the destination before or after the others.

Now, just about all credit cards have a security chip and your refueling at the self-serve petrol stops will be seamless. Didn't realize that the pumps would only accept those chip cards that were popular in Europe. Approached a group of riders that had German/Euro plates and stammered in broken German my situation. The immediate response was, "Of course we can help ya Mate!"
They were Brits on a riding holiday and had rented bikes in Bavaria coming from the northern side of the Alps. I paid them in cash and they used their card.

We dropped down to the Med and stayed in Nice for a couple of days visiting the Casino in Monte Carlo as well.

Have a great ride and tell us all about it when you return.
Mute the videos . . just road noise

you will love the area!!!!!! I agree with Meese, buy the book. We live here and I have learned a lot from the book. I use it for a lot of our trip planning.
I would highly recommend Stelvio Pass: STELVIO PASS - Italy It is amazing! get your GoPro ready!

Re: Dolomite / Alp advise

I was in working near Stuttgart last August and had a free weekend, so I took the tiny little rental car into the Alps and just hit as many passes as I could. Wasn't quite as much fun as two wheels, but still made for a good day.

The next weekend, I rented an S1000XR from Frankfurt and managed to catch a couple laps on the Nurburgring. Now that was fun...
