Question Windscreen Hight

How tall should the windscreen be? I'm 6'4" and have 99 LT with the stock windscreen. I've never really ridden a bike with anything else but stock windscreens and I'm use to getting the wind hitting the top of my helmut or a bit lower so I don't have anything to compare with. I have always been able to look over the top of the windscreen and on my LT with the screen all the way up it seems like its just below my eyes, I'm getting some back pressure from the wind. If I lower it a bit then it kind of evens out between the back pressure and the wind hitting the top of my helmut.

I'm on my second new BMW, and the first thing I did was replace the windshield. It seems as though BMW designs their shields for looks and perhaps aerodynamics...but forgets functionality. I highly recommend that you look into replacing that shield with an aftermarket shield. I like Cee Bailey's shields. The "#2" version shield really works well with increased wind and rain protection. Let alone, increased clarity. Now you just have to figure out which height to order. Nobody can tell you what will work for you. The best thing you can do is find someone in your area with the aftermarket shield that you decide on, and go try it on for size.

Talking Windsheild

Thanks for the feedback Joe. I just happen to get a chance to sit on an LT today that had a Cee Bailey. The owner didn't know which one it was but I think it was a #2 +2. It seem to be about right. I didn't have a chance to ride the bike but I think it would work. Do you know anything about the V Stream?

There's lots of good info here that can be found by searching for Vstream, V-Stream, and/or ZTechnik. Such as this and this and this and this and this and this. That should get you started.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Bob, I am 6'0, 4 inches shorter than you. I have a Cee Bailey #2-2 and it works well for me. So, I suppose the 2+2 would be about the same for you. My inseam is 32" in bike boots. You might compare your measurments and take a guess?

Also consider what the windshield is made of.

There are safety arguments to be made (and they are, on this site) about acrylic v. polycarbonate shields. Search on either of those key words and you'll find lots to read.

For the sake of reference: The CB #2 is approxiamtely 2.5" taller than the LT's taller OEM shield. My CB #2 -2 was just about .5" taller than the shield that came on my '02 LT. At 6'3", I liked it. But shorter would've been good too.
