Thumbs up Gateway BMW, St Louis - Positive

On my return from CCR '08, I had a final drive fail on Monday afternoon. I knew in having the bike towed to the shop on Monday that I would have to leave the bike outside until someone arrived on Tuesday morning, so I walked to side of the building to find some shade and tried to make hotel reservation, but I had drained the battery on my cell phone dealing with Progressive and the towing company.

On walking back to the front of the building a blue R1200RT had showed up, but I didn't see anyone inside, so I just put myself close to the door while I pondered my next move. Very shortly a very pleasant gentleman, David Hunter - Owner, came to the door and asked if that was my LT sitting outside and what happened. He got me out of the heat to use the computer inside to make hotel reservations and then lent me his personal bike to get to the hotel and back to the shop the next day to get the service started on the bike, he helped me get the LT inside the shop so that it would be secure for the night and then called the service manager to give him a heads up on my LT.

The next morning I met Bob Honz - Sales Manager and Shannon Logan - Service Manager and you would have thought I had been their customer from the sale of the bike. Shannon started looking for parts to fix the rear, including one that he thought would work from a triked LT. As it worked out, there wasn't a 99-01 FD anywhere in the US. So he offered to order on from Europe and get me back on the road in a week. (As it was we found a rebuilt to use to get me home.)

They sent me back to hotel on Tuesday on a loaner GS and invited me out to European Moto Union group that both Bob and Shannon belong to.

The rebuilt showed up at the shop early Wednesday morning and the early birds had started the install before I got there. They replaced the repads because the FD oil had soaked the originals. I'd had a ABS pump fault from a brake repair that I had done. That ended up being a plunger fault that was cleared by cycling the plungers. They had be back on the road by 1:00 on Wednesday.

Everyone in the shop is a rider and everyone understood the situation I was in. All of them did everything they could to get me back on the road.

I hope I don't ever have to visit these guys again for a mechanical breakdown, but it will be a place I stop everytime I travel through St Louis.

On His Ride,
Steve
