Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Is anyone else getting excited about next week? I know I am. I will try to get my routes published this week so if anyone wants to load them up they will be here on the site. I will also have my laptop with base camp on it as well as 15 copies of the Arkansas Motorcycling Guide books.

See you all in less than a week!! WooHoo!

Yes, getting excited. It will be the longest ride for me to date although not so much for all the real long timers but I hope to get there one day.

My local Little Rock contact volunteered " The Pig Trail", "Hwy 9 between Clinton and Mountain View" and " Hwy 65 from Conway" as all good roads some of which have already been mentioned earlier in the thread. He was visiting family last week and traveled up Hwy 9 and said he counted over 200 bikes on that stretch. I suspect we won't be alone.

Yep. Got my oil changed. Hope to wash the bike tomorrow if the rain ever stops and maybe wax it Thursday. Pack up Friday evening and hit the road Saturday or first thing Sunday at the latest. About 1200 miles for me, which is pretty easy in three days, but since the wife is coming, I will probably take four days to keep the enjoyment factor reasonable.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Bike is packed, and ready. We have had the worst spring for weather that I can remember, so very much looking forward to the time in AR. New Clearwater lights installed and working nicely, complete tune up, all fluids, new tires, Fuzeblock, cleaned up some missing grommets so a few less rattles, and this weekend it will be clean. I leave WI 5am Monday and Iron Butt it to St. Louis, and then follow the Butler map of great roads south from Cuba MO to Emminence MO (where we have stayed before, and includes some nice roads, and Akers Ferry ) Tuesday, again, following Butler maps 'great' roads west and south to Russellville, taking my time and this time the Peels' gap Ferry (rt 125). From the looks of the weather, doesn't look like we'll need heated gear!

Looking forward to meeting folks

I have a set of bag liners on Ebay for sale. If someone coming to this needs them, I'll bring them for free-I bought them as part of another auction and don't need them. Just let me know and I'll throw them in the trunk.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Here are two of the trips I plan to ride. They mix in a little of Ron's routes published earlier and you can mix up parts of each and make the routes longer or shorter.

I found Pam's Hateful Hussy Cafe a few years back on a trip to Ft Sill. Want to go back and ride the Talahina Scenic Byway again as well.

The other is a trip up to Eureka Springs that can use parts of Ron's North an West routes.

Again we can only post .gdb files vs. gpx

Yep, me and mrs leaving for Rockwall, TX in truck with bike in tow on Friday. She does not ride anymore, so trip to TX, (we used to live just outside of Dallas) gets us to Jim and Suzie (friends in Rockwall) and many visits to family still there and lots of other friends for both of us. Me and Jim, riding buddy from Lone Star Riders club out of Dallas, heading up on Tuesday for couple of days.. looking forward to visits... prayers for no rain ☔️!!

When we lived in the Dallas area, had some land and a small cabin on hill behind Albion for several years. Great weekend get away ! We ate many meals at Pam's back then. Sold out, retired and moved to western NC in 2013. Some good memories !

It's only 50% chance of rain so you'll only get half wet.

If my rain gear is only half as good as everyone elses, does that mean I will get 100% wet?

90% unfortunately. That is progress as it was 100% earlier this afternoon. I'm hoping for only 80% by morning.

Ok, packed, bike ready, helmet fully charged, gps programmed. trying to ignore the wedding ( gluten free freeken cake!!!). and school shooting ( OMG) talk on the radio. Should I listen to Sattelite radio, Spotify, Gladwell podcast, Len Cohen, Willie Nelson, old G. Dead mix? Something else? Hard hard decision.

I have no satellite and nothing else comes in here in the Appalachia mountains of northern PA and we forgot to bring the iPod. So, just listen to the song of the flying brick.

On our first coffee break after 1:15 in 50 degrees and light rain. Not going to be a high mileage day. Hope to at least get into Ohio before we get tired of the rain.

Sammie and I will leave Austin area Monday and go to Natchitoches, Louisiana for the night then on to Russellville on Tuesday. Mostly 2 lane back roads and stop as much as we want to. On past CCR trips I would leave the day before Sammie would (she would fly out) and I hammered out the miles just to get there. This trip we are stopping to smell the roses, the Horse shit or anything else we want to smell.

That is the way to travel. We only made 350 miles yesterday, but the first 200 were on two lane rural PA roads. May spend a little time today exploring the Wright brothers monuments in and around Dayton before proceeding southwest. Hopefully, less rain today.

Cool start

It was a cool (7C 45F)and foggy start in Ontario Canada this morning. I wasn't going to bring my heated jacket liner, but changed my mind when I saw the weather this morning!! A cold front came through last night.
It was fine after I got the heat turned on a bit on the jacket, handlebars and the butt warmer!!! (You know your getting old when you need electric heat!!)
Some rain in southern MI and northern IN but nice and warm here in Ft Wayne. I'm taking 2 more days to get there.
Safe trip everyone.

4 free spark plugs for one lucky K1600 owner at CCR

I accidentally purchased the wrong type of plugs for my RT and ended up with 4 NGK93444 LMAR8D-J that I could not return.
The good news is that I might accept a cold beer for them from the first person who claims them.
The bad news is that you will need to purchase 2 more before your next plug replacement.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Had a nice riding day yesterday. Spent much of the day touring the Wright Brothers sights in Dayton, then hit the road around 2:00. Had a 30 minute delay for an accident and it got hot near Louisville (93), so we called it a day near Elizabethtown. Heading out the Western Kentucky Parkway today, but looks like rain as we near Paducah.

The bad news is that you will need to purchase 2 more before your next plug replacement.

Re: 4 free spark plugs for one lucky K1600 owner at CCR

Leaving tomorrow at 0630. Heading to Memphis via highway 64, to 40, 240, and 40 again. I dug through my old stack of CCR name tag holders and found quite a few to share. I bring those along for those that have never been to a CCR and for those that didn't think about bringing one. Looks like rain will leave us alone along our rout except for the shot through Memphis. Hope every one has a safe journey and a good ride in. Should arrive near 3 pm.

I didn't think about name tags. Probably an office supply store we can get more if needed. We are about 250 miles out in Poplar Bluff, MO. Had a nice ride on the Western Kentucky Parkway and similar roads in Missouri. A little too flat and straight for my taste, but next to no traffic and we escaped the rain all day. Should arrive around check-in time tomorrow.

Cool Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Well darn it! Forgot my name tag, so that is probably why the Bike broke down on the second day of our long planned trip last week! I was really looking forward to hooking up again with all you Booze Brothers, but fate has intervened. My Bike is sitting in A&S down in California awaiting a replacement Throttle Body assembly coming from [email protected] So I am sitting home waiting for the call that they have it fixed so I can go down and fetch the Bike!

But there will be at least two of the old NW Pac gang showing up to represent us, so all is not lost. Thanks for putting this together John, and maybe next time around I can be there. Have fun folks!

I checked in at 3:30 and they offered no cold water. Must be you drank it all!

The lady read me the names, but only Zeiler and Keen rang a bell. Met several more while unloading bike and already forgetting names.

Cleaning up, cooling down and catching up on email and Facebook for the family and folks at home.

Hey, John, what time are we gathering in the meeting room?

Well Bruce White was right a lot of T-Storms and rain here this time of year. Just have to plan your routes carefully and watch the radar. Had a great ride to Jasper via 7 & 123. Lunch at the Ozark Cafe (great Reuben) and came back on 7 threading the needle on T-Storms all the way. Only had a five mile run in medium rain.

Really sad that we had to leave a day early. Looks like the Eureka Springs ride was great, just like all the others we shared. Jean and I had a great time and look forward to the next one. Maybe lower Utah near Brice and Capitol Reef as we have not been to these. Thinking about the end of August 2019 like a regular CCR time frame.

Im glad y'all had fun despite the Arkansas spring weather.

It'd be great if we could keep this going. Lots of us old-timers here have a lot of fond memories of CCR's in various locations all around the country.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

That was a bummer that you had to leave early, but at least you had a few good rides while here. My tire didn't arrive until noon and it was after 1:00 before it was mounted, balanced and back on the bike. We did get a short ride up to Mt. Nebo this afternoon and then a drive along the lake on 326. Just finished a supper with the Keen's and now trip planning for our 1300 mile journey home.

Southern Utah is a fantastic place. Linda and I have been there a few times. Great riding and scenery. It will likely be very hot in August though...

Thanks again for organizing this year's event. We had a great time for our first attendance. We will make every effort to attend next year. Thanks also for the torque wrench loan. Lug bolts are torqued to spec and the wrench and socket are in Gordon's care.

I should add a comment about Honda of Russellville. I see why they are well-regarded in the Wing community. They treated me better than my BMW dealer ever did. Their parts man spent 20 minutes searching for an LT spec BT020 that could get here overnight. He spent 30 more minutes playing 20 questions with the pathetically poor BMWMOA Platinum plan provider. Their service department mounted the tire the moment I wheeled the wheel through their door and they even found an adapter to balance the assembly (they originally said they likely could only mount the tire). I am very appreciative of the first class service they provided to someone who they likely will never see again and who doesn't ride a Honda. BMW could learn from these folks. They are right up there with Zeiler and Saddleman!

Did you come out whole on the hotel? I understand you took some financial risk with the booking. Safe travels everyone!

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Glad I had actually brought the correct torque wrench (I thought I mistakenly brought the 3/8 drive). That is great about the Honda Dealer, good to know.

I was fine on the hotel risk. I had only committed to 20 rooms and cancellations had to fall below 75 % of that before there was any fee levied. We were well over that. I tried to hook up with Mr Patel to give him feedback on how the wait staff performed (both the good and the bad) but was never able to meet with him. I'll give him a call next week to see how our group was received (remember Just Joe was there stirring things up with the ladies birthday party).

Angie did a great job. We also had a good server tonight, but I didn't catch her name. Then again, it was pretty dead. Just the Keen's and us for the early hours.

I thought the Clarion did a pretty good job overall. No real complaints from us.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Oh boy, I need LD more seat time because my A$$ hurts after 5 days of riding including 2 long full days for me there and back. Made the 650 mile trip home by 6:15 ET and left somewhere between 6:30 and 7am CT. I had a great time and enjoyed all the rides and meeting all the new people who made the CCR events such a success over the years. And then there is Joe . Nothing more need be said about that. I will parse through all the pictures and hopefully video of the event and find some way to present it. Thanks to John for pulling this together. As stated, I have your torque wrench and socket from Matt and will pass it on next time we see each other, likely the fall reunion at Iron Horse.

I know what you mean. This is our first long ride of the season and we're out of riding shape. Linda and I left just after 7:00 and decided to ride AR-123 since we weren't able to ride that on Thursday. What a great ride. Cool temps (68-72) with some fog on the mountain tops. A great start to the day. Even with that slow start, we logged nearly 500 miles. Traffic was amazingly light and we zipped through St. Louis like it wasn't even there. The only issue was heat. It was 95 degrees through St. Louis and that is hot for us Yankees just coming off winter! Got to Effingham, IL before calling it a day at 5:30. Having dinner now and then going to soak the buns in the pool for a while!

It was great meeting everyone and I certainly hope to participate in the future ... Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Gordon, if John needs his tools back before Iron Horse, I will pay return shipping. Just let me know.
