Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

First route to consider:

Russellville North and West will take you on Hwy 7 to the beginning of the Arkansas Dragon...then on to Jasper and possibly a meal at the Ozark Cafe. On though the countryside to the old town of Oark (not misspelled). Check out the old General Store that is now a restaurant. Then on back to Russelville. This one is 208 miles and Base Camp calls for almost 5 hours.

See attached GPX file and Pdf

Created with map version 2019.1

Ron

PS. The LT forum won't allow GPX files to be uploaded so I had to convert it to a gdb file. I hope it works for you.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Second route to consider.

This route takes you through 2 of many beautiful Arkansas state parks...Petit Jean and Magazine Mountain state parks along with a few twistie roads. A couple things to see would be the car museum on the east side of Petit Jean park and the lodge at Magazine mountain. That lodge would be a great place for lunch. Also at Magazine Mountain is a launch site for hang gliders. Magazine is the highest mountain in Arkansas.

This one shows to be 166 miles and about 4 hours.

Just a quick note to let you know that My Wife & I will have to bow-out of CCR in Ar. due to conflicting obligations. I will be canceling our reservation at the Clarion Inn this evening, anyone interested can call them later to nite. Hope to attend one of the later events.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

I can't attend after all. Dang. Was really looking forward to this. Lisa retires on May 31st and I need to be home to assist with that; plus, with a new employer I don't have nearly enough vacation time accrued so can't do it anyway. (This was an unplanned job change; long story. Short version: HP lost the contract re-bid at Fort Knox so we all were reassigned to other contractors and now our seniority starts over.)

I know you guys will have a good time and I'll look forward to reading about it here; or better yet, hopefully hearing about it at the Iron Horse in October.

Take care.

Take care.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Just another lil fun fact...
Messenger13 has only 7 states (of the contiguous 48 states) left to tour. One of those 7 being ... Arkansas.
How convenient that this CCR-R checks that state off the list.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

I have but 1 state left on all my motorcycles and that is Ohio. I only lack 5 on the original LT. Ohio, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. A trip to Cape Cod this fall should do it.

Anyone up for a group ride to the AF Museum in Dayton (not during CCR-R)?

I have a box of the Arkansas Motorcycle Road Guides that I will have at the Hotel for those that did not register and download their own copy. See you there in a few weeks.

I'm only missing North Dakota, New Jersey, Maine and Rhode Island from my states ridden on motorcycle. Unfortunately those will have to stay that way since I no longer ride. Guess I'll have to start a new list for the Miata.

Well, since everyone is talking about States Visited on a motorcycle I may as well join in. Being somewhat older than most of you I may have been at this longer. However, in any event, I'm proud to say that I've collected 49 of our 50 states. I'm missing Alaska and will most likely not ever add it to my list. Too OLD! I've ridden to all of these from my home with the obvious exception of Hawaii but did rent a Beemer for a couple of days while visiting there.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

Holy crap! I just revisited my list of states not toured, and Oklahoma is on their. CCR-R is a perfect opportunity for me to knock out that one, as well. The last 5 are all bunched together in the north east. I can knock those out in a long weekend if I really wanted to. But, I think me and the little lady will take a nice, leisurely ride up to Maine and I'll be done with the 'lower 48'.

Yep it's a combination of old motorcycle injuries and getting older. A bad hip and messed up right hand from a bad crash in 1979 on my Honda CB550. The hip never healed right and its hard to sit in one position very long any more. I've lost over 50% grip strength in my right hand and can only hold the throttle about 20 minutes till I'm in pain. I've lived with the pain for years but the loss of grip strength only started in the last 2 years. Docs say not a lot can be done without major surgery for the hand plus no guaranties it will help and the hip is as good as it will get. But Sammie and I will be there in the Miata.

For what ever satisfaction it may offer you should know that you will have company at the party. Janet and I will also be on 4 wheels in the Bimmer. Unlike you I am not dealing with old injuries, I'm just dealing with being OLD! I still ride locally but two 7 or 8 hours days back to back is more than this 'ol Phart can safely handle. I thought about trailering the bike but the wife hasn't ridden in over 10 years and I didn't want to take off on rides and leave her sitting at the hotel. Even so, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to visit with some old friends that we haven't seen is several years as well as some top down touring on what looks like some great roads in the area.

Re: Going Live - Curve Cowboy Reunion - Reunion

May 8th is the last day to get the discounted room rate so book by next Tuesday or pay full price.

Also this is a DRY county so if you want your own "stuff" get it before you get here. The Private club at the Hotel can serve alcohol with a full service bar.

The Hotel Manager told me they could set up a conference room with tables if we would like to dine as a group from the restaurant menu and we could do this any day we are there. I am having him check if we can get a cash bar set up on Tuesday the 22nd for a reception just like we used to do at CCR.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Russellville.

Ok you guys, Iím starting to get emotional now. I canít put into words how much the people in this group has meant to me. My kids have forbidden me to go, but my wife is supportive. I am going to sneak out of the house (my kids donít live here anyway so it isnít much sneaking) and start driving south. Staying with a cousin In Missouri, and should by there Tuesday. My health is better than it has been in five years or so. I may even dance. This old man is really excited.

Sounds to me like you are primed for a CCR-R to me. Buckle up ... it's gonna be a PARTY! That is, if I got anything to say about it.
