Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

Not a BMW RT. I'm thinking it is a Hayabusa. I saw this this morning and also saw the thread yesterday about the man killed hitting the back end of a semi. Some riders need to use good old common sense. I have owned various bikes for 55 years and done my share of "what will this baby do", but not lately and never at night. Jeez, 186 on I-95. Ya, he got away with it, but I think he is just plain NUTS. This was posted on You Tube by Robert Bobby. Story and film are attached.

Could the GPS be set for km/hr? If so then it's 115.6 mph.

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

If you pay attention to the video and how fast objects are passing by I doubt very much he is hitting speeds up to 186 mph. 186 kph is more realistic.
186 kph is 115 mph.

Take another look at the video.

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

Not on a bike, but in my car, I've driven 166 MPH - GPS. There's a 35 mile stretch of US 60 - through the desert - that's almost dead flat and dead straight for 35 miles, one home, and only prairie dirt roads where you can see for miles, not too far west of me. The road was recently resurfaced, clear morning, no traffic, no wind.

I can tell you that road stripes at that speed do not look like those in the video and objects on the shoulder, like signs, fly by far more quickly than the video.

I believe his bike is showing KPH = as noted 115 mph.

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

Someone changed the story.
That bike was actually doing 186 MPH on the Autobahn. If you watch for the visual of the dash you'll see it register 299kph which is roughly 186 MPH.
The bike was a Kawi and it gets passed by a station wagon while travelling that fast. You need to have some really good reactions at that speed

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

Right.

So what station wagon goes faster than 186 MPH?

What road sign is this in Germany? I spent 8 years there in the military and never saw one like this.

Also, road and exit signs in Germany are blue or orange, not green.

As a side note ALL bikes that even resemble a crotch rocket are going to be frowned up because of those idiots in DC and NYC. It is obvious the reporter of the story didn't do any actual research before getting the story out.

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

I've seen the DC bunch on the loop in the very early AM doing 130ish...To my surprise there was essentially no other traffic despite the location so not as dangerous as it seems though it has to be noted that urban roads can have all manner of debris from tire bits to mufflers that could cause a real mess quickly.
186 is a very long very from 130 and not something I'd want to do- in a straight line speed is boring and curved public roads don't come with corner workers to extend the riders senses..

looks like a "H" for hospital sign.
But 186 MHP is only 270 KMH

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

Someone's math is off.
299 Kph is 185.789986 Mph, or 186 MPH if you round it off...

ps... the Philly story ain't worth the cyberspace it occupies. It claims the bike was "clocked" at 185, but in reality the entire story is based on what someone posted in an online video.
Compare the two video's closely. The bike in Germany is tapped out at rpm, and look at how fast he approaches and passes other vehicles. Mind you most sections of the Autobahn are posted 80 MPH. So assuming most traffic runs close to that, the dude is flying. Now the Philly rider isn't passing at a rate even close to that and his engine RPM's (sound) are what I'd expect if he had the speedo set on Kph rather than Mph. Next look at his tach.... way too low for the 125 registered on the speedo if it was Mph.

Yeh, 270, that would have been 168 MPH and not 186 MPH, those that can read three numbers in the correct sequence have the clear advantage

Exactly, and that was my point. That sign does not exist in Germany. The sign to indicate there is a hospital is a big red cross on a white background, bordered in blue - throughout Europe..

The only "H" signs are for bus stops, and they usually have added signs under the H to indicate routes and timetable.

I thought the "H" sign meant that a Honda dealer at the next exit.

The road signs are U.S. While I can't read the numbers, the shapes are clearly consistent with federal highway designations.

You are correct I should have said: "it's a Spital sign" there is a difference between hospital and a Spital, mainly used in Switzerland and Austria.

At the last daylight saving time changeover I visited a dyslexic friend of mine, just in time to see him rubbing his penis with shoe cream..!
"You idiot" I shouted "you were supposed to turn your clock back!"

Apologies to the OP for the digression. We were just having fun and went down an ADD worm hole. Back on topic, I've never ridden above 120 MPH and that video looks like a speed I've ridden. I think it's really 186 KPH not MPH.

Re: Clocked at 186 MPH on I-95

I don't think you can judge the bike's speed by the lane markers going by because of the choppiness of the video image from vibration and the limitations of frames-per-second.

I note an overhead sign for "Scotch Rd 1 1/4 miles" at 1:29 at an indicated "161", although most speedos show faster-than-actual. The next sign says "Scotch Rd 1/4 mile" at 1:48 and the exit starts at 1:56 or so. There's no apparent editing of the video, so he apparently went a mile in about 20 seconds or so and 1.25 miles in about 27 seconds. The math puts his speed pushing 180 mph but I guess it's not provable from the video.
