Allow me to introduce.......

Tabibito

The new FJR arrived Tuesday, but I was stuck in High Maturity CMMI training for three days. Gail and I finally took her out for a couple hundred miles this afternoon, and here's the dirt......

Power: Plenty, and it's everywhere. It WILL wheelie.

Handling: Very predictable and stable, exactly what I expected.

Brakes: Linked ABS for '06, once I got them bedded in they work pretty good. Doesn't have the feel that the LT does though.
Wind protection: Much improved over the previous model. A far cry from the LT, but still very good for this segment.
The Bags: The only things that will survive a nuclear attack will be roaches, and the Yamaha bags. Very sturdy, and the attachment is first rate. They came with the liners also, nice touch.
Ride: Smooth as a baby's ass. I could do a whole day on this thing easily if it weren't for...
The Seat: I lasted through the first two hour stint with no problems, Gail whined a little. The homeward leg was over three hours and we won't be doing that again I promise you. Gail was starting to repeat herself, "This seat sucks, this seat sucks" (good thing we were almost home)
Fit and Finish: Very good, and I love the color. Really pops in the sunlight, looks almost black in low light.
The Heat: What freekin' heat? Got up to 91 today, and there was nothing like the heat problem of the previous model. Yamaha hit one outta the park except for the......
Whistle: It whistles. The speed at which it whistles varies depending on windshield height and it's barely noticeable with the earplugs in, but it's there. Maybe it'll scare the deer away.

Anyway...
It won't replace the LT for two up touring, but if I decide to go decompress over the weekend (or the week for that matter), I'll take this over the LT any day. It's an addictively powerful and competent ride. The fact there's a Yamaha dealer in every town (just in case) ain't bad either.

Here's another look...

love the dark blue; a real beauty. it's prolly what i'd be touring on, one up.

i'll bet there is a highly active FJR newsgroup. and i'll bet there is someone at that newsgroup who knows how to cure the whistle. the seat, too.

enjoy it. but hang onto yer license. the thing will prolly do 130 without breaking a sweat.

That's a sharp bike Dave! Would love to see the color in person under the Florida sun... So, how much does a Yamaha cupholder run? ;-)

If you are decompressing out this way, let me know - give you a chance to break the seat in good...

Bee-yoo-ti-ful!!

Is Yamaha still playing the $500 pre-pay order BS game, like their not confident the bike would sell here in the US?

Thanks for the pics and write-up.

Yup, the PDP program still lives, I plunked down my $500 back in December.

Theoretically, once all the PDP bikes are spoken for, that would be it for the year. The Yamaha rep at Bike Week told me dealers had 700 units in inventory after the '05 PDP was allotted. They order them under ghost names to have them on the floor. As of last month, you could still find an '05 if you looked hard enough. You can negotiate on the PDP price at some dealers, but once they hit the salesfloor it's MSRP around here.
