Future headlights turn rain invisible

New technology co-developed by Intel and Carnegie Mellon University uses a camera and projector to locate drops of rain as they enter the headlight beams and blots out the bits of its projection where the rain drops are. The result is a light that shines out from the front of a car in the dark, but doesn't highlight any rain.

Could be quite interesting . . .

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Dunno! Methinks it is just more stuff that breaks and needs a rocket scientist to fix.

Without men civilization would last untill the oil needs changing.

I cannot grasp how this could work. At speed the location of rain drops within just a few feet of the lens would probably need blocking of well over half the beam, so you would have less than half the light output. Even then you would be illuminating the raindrops further out. Also, what about the drops splashing against the lens front, and the distortion from that?
