Am I alone in feeling a little sorry for...

these folks: ?

This picture has appeared on the humor board at least a couple of times. It is not my intention to criticize anyone who has posted the picture, it is a remarkable picture in so many ways, and no doubt the picture has spread wide and far on the net. My first reaction to the photo is probably just like everyone's,

The couple of the woeful countenance. He's funny looking and the timing of the snapshot probably didn't help. Somehow the quote: "there, but for the grace of God, go I." comes to mind. She's overweight, so many people are these days. Actually, I like her sense of humor, I suspect she isn't taking herself too seriously.

Maybe I'm just a stick in the mud, sentimentalist. But all the captions I've seen added to this picture have been unkind, hurtful.

But somehow I feel a little pity, sorry for them. I'm assuming that these two folks just got married and the pic got out on the net and every caption imaginable has been added to it.

Or am I just being too moralizing for this board?

I saw a video of these two and they were absolutely in LOVE.
He said she had a huge heart and was one of the nicest people around.

Makes one wonder looking at the pic, but if it works for them, who am I to say otherwise.

I feel sorry for her. I don't think anyone who is seriously overweight is happy about it. I'm sure she's making the best of it and I think it's just great that they have each other.

Kindness is in short supply these days.

We most certainly could all use some.

No, you're not alone.

It's just that the minority of folks who try and make themselves feel a bit better by putting down others tend to be rather vocal about it. Some people never do grow out of middle school insecurity and confusion, and thus they lash out at others in a vain attempt to build themselves up a bit. They will usually just label it "humor" and thus write off anyone who disagrees with them or calls them out on their hurtful behavior. But it never really works, and so they just remain childish and petty . . .

I still say, if you're not one of the two people getting married, then it's none of your damn business.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Ain't that the truth.
I am glad I made it past 60. First, I don't see any humor in the picture. And don't know who set up its original posting but the age of the internet and cell phones has poisoned the well. Instruments were designed out of necessity and progress but this generation is taking it backward with social media, texting and blogs. Still have to live in it . . . sad

Re: Am I alone in feeling a little sorry for...

Tools are just tools: it's how you use them that counts.

We can easily keep in contact with friends we've made all over the world using email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, etc.

Or you can use those same tools to stalk and harass others.

In the end, it always comes down to people's intentions, and whether or not they have respect for each other.

And that's my main problem with much of what gets passed off as "humor": so much of it depends on nothing more than disrespecting and denigrating others. If that's all your "joke" is based on, then it's just not all that funny to me . . .

Good discussion though, I'm glad it got brought up here.
