Re: Automobile question

Typical life on an OE battery is 4-6 years in my experiance.
Aftermarket is 3-5.

I now use nothing but sealed units. Makes life much easier.

Re: Automobile question

depends on usage. My F150 battery laster 2.5 years but it was almost 100,000 miles. My Jetta battery lasted 4 year but was only 40.000 miles. The replacement battery for my truck only lasted 11 months but was replaced free under warranty.

Re: Automobile question

I still have the original battery on my Nov '04 MB SLK, but, like my bike, it's kept on a battery tender all the time it's parked in my garage.

Re: Automobile question

I'm lucky to get 3-4 years out of a new car/truck battery in Florida.

In the old days, they would slowly die and you could keep jumping them, but now, they just flat out die and it seems without warning. Jumping is a waste of time.

Heat seems to be a real killer. I know a couple of SLK owners in FL who look after their batteries like I do, and yet are on their 3rd or 4th battery by now.

Re: Automobile question

Thanks all. This battery is 8 years old so I think I'll be proactive and replace .

Re: Automobile question

Probably a good idea since the longest prorated warranty I have seen is 7 years. I got almost 6 years out of my original OEM on the LT and no tender.
