BMWMOA Virus

Not that its a concern of the Luxury touring community but I see that the MOA site is having trouble again with virus. Isn't it sad that there are those in this world that aren't happy unless they can screw things up?. Nothing is safe.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

Yeah, it's a damn shame, the site is excellent, IMO. Even after it came back 'fixed' the other day, I received another virus warning on my computer. And the flea market segment will take another month or more to fix?! Virus authors should have their fingers broken when caught.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

I used to host production servers for some of my clients. Someone managed to hack one of the servers and upload a picture of Bin Laden on the home page. Fortunately it occurred over the weekend and I was able to fix it before Monday morning. Long story short I had make a huge investment in intrusion prevention hardware and software, money that could have been used elsewhere. MOA may have to bite the bullet and do the same.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

I was just there and it seemed OK. No virus warnings or alerts either.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

I am pretty sure the site has been clean since it came back up.

If you are still getting warnings, you may need to clear your browser cache to get a clean slate to work from.

As I understand it, the site upgrade and the virus contamination were coincidental. The flea market being down is not a result of the virus, but rather because it is a separate software application from the site's forum software.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

not sure I understand the point of infecting someone's computer or servers.....is it to say that I did it. or to make someone go out and spend money for a new computer?

I keep my Norton's up to date always.

Re: BMWMOA Virus

It is up and running as of this morning with the Flea Market included as a Forum topic.

Anyone else think the new format of their Forum looks amateurish? (Not to insult her but it looks like something my 5 year old granddaughter would design.) It certainly makes the format of the LT Forum shine by comparison!

Re: BMWMOA Virus

For some time they've posted that the Flea Market there is under a new forum heading of FLEAS until they get the new flea market up and running (which was already in the works).

For some, it's the transient thrill of doing something you're not supposed to, and bucking the rules and annoying others for your own amusement. Kinda like going to the zoo and poking at the lions just to get a reaction . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Another reason is to recruit that server or PC in a Denial Of Service attack at a future date. Lets say that you have an axe to grind with Company X. You infect hundreds or thousands of servers so that at a certain time they issue requests to Company X servers. If you can get enough request coming in then you can possible bring down their servers with an excessive volume of request. Of course real customers will not be able to access Company X servers while this is going on.
