Weight-loss ... keep on fighting the good fight!

I created a thread last year regarding my weight-loss efforts after joining Weight Watchers with my wife. It was VERY successful, and the wife and I were pleased with the results. And, we learned a lot about our eating habits. Over a year later, the fight continues. I'm looking to close 2012 at the lowest weight I've been for over a decade, and I feel great.

I'm not bragging here, just trying to encourage those of you who need it. I've struggled my whole life with my weight, and shall continue to do so for the rest of my life. The day I stop fighting the "battle of the bulge", is a dark day indeed.

That's excellent news. Thanks for the update. I was actually thinking about this (your original thread) recently.

Hey, Joe, congratulations on the weight loss. It's easy to pile 'em on, but a lot of work to take 'em off! Post some numbers, will ya?

Here are mine:
Mid-January 2012 - 270 pounds
November 6, 2012 - 207 pounds

Looking back at pictures taken at the 2011 end of the year RTE, I can't believe I had gotten that BIG! Now my LT doesn't yell "UNCLE!" anymore. The scale at the Y doesn't say "One at a time, please."

Joe, Lee, congratulations to both of you.

I'm in the hole about 70lbs. Lee how have you been able to stay on the wagon?

Congrats on your achievement. One of those things I have wanted to do for a while.

Re: Weight-loss ... keep on fighting the good fight!

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys.

Here is my system. I signed up on myfitnesspal.com to count calories and track my weight loss progress. Putting in everything I eat, allows me to see just how MUCH I was eating. Holy cow! WAY too much. I have cut my intake by a lot. I also joined the Y in my area and workout 5-7 times a week. If I'm not at the Y, I'm on my mountain bike in the woods. It's been one heck of a struggle, but I feel much better. I have to watch myself constantly, because I really like to eat. I can slip occassionally, but that means I have to spend a little more time at the gym. I have a dumbbell workout I do twice a week, in addition to 30 minutes on the stair climber and 35 on the elliptical trainer. Mountain bike rides are usually 7 miles, although I've done as many as 12 a couple times.

Congrats Little Joe, unfortunately I still look more like Hoss...

Switched jobs a year ago and now travel more and work less which has really made wieght loss more difficult.

Good to hear. I've got myfitnesspal on my iPhone, iPad, Mac, work computer, etc. It really helps to track what you eat. Just like Lee, I was surprised at home much I eat. I've also set up the program to track mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, so I see the weakest times. My weight loss isn't nearly as dramatic as Lee's but I'm down from 222 to 197, with hopes to get back to 175-180 this year.

Congratulation, Dan! Every small step is a victory! Just don't celebrate by going out to eat at someplace bad. Someone on MFP has the signature, "Don't reward yourself with food. You're not a dog." Makes sense. Buy something nice for the bike!
