BMW North America donates $1 million

I just found this while reading Motorcycle-use.com, seems BMW North America gave $1 million to the Red Cross in support of Hurricane relief.

Read it here .

Thank-you BMW NA!

While I think it's a great thing for BMW to do.....the money would have been better spent if they would have given it to a local charity, maybe the Salvation Army. The Red Cross has too much bureaucracy, they are very much like the United Way.

Not sure of the percentage but I would bet that less than half that money actually reaches the victims.

FrankNitti,

Poor choice on your part. Each United Way IS an independent
locally run agency with local volunteer boards of directors. If you are concerned about percentage of donations that are returned to local charities check with your local United Way.

I agree with you on Red Cross, definitely not run as efficiently as any local UW.

The last time I looked at the American Red Cross book keeping was after Katrina. They usually spend more money trying to raise money than they take in. The only years they are able to spend money in the black are when we have major storms or earthquakes. That is when the donations pour in. The Salvation Army is a much better run organization when it comes to money spent verses money received.

Re: BMW North America donates $1 million

Well since a few people think the Red Cross is keeping to much money I did a little research. I looked a a number of charity watch groups and they all seem to says about the same thing. The Red Cross spends about 92% of what it takes in on the program you give them money to help/support.

Here are a couple of the watch group sites. http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...ary&orgid=3277

Harley Davidson didn't make a donation because they were afraid the oil leak would contaminate the flooded water tables.

Re: BMW North America donates $1 million

Red Cross will never see a donation from me.

Many years ago, while participating in a disaster relief operation, the Red Cross showed up and passed out coffee and donuts. They then tried to collect funds for the coffee and donuts.

Money for charity gets spent a whole lot better with the Salvation Army or about any one other than the Red Cross.

Bet most of that million went to pay executive salaries of bonuses.
