What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

I have been pretty lucky over the years snagging only one ticket since 1999. I have gotten one photo radar going 80Km in a 60 km zone. The cost was $125.00. How well have you done?

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

In the early 70's.... Not on a bike , but in a new to me, company car, leaving southern VA and heading up to Ohio, through WV, I got 3 speeding tickets in less than 24 hours! One in each state.

Long story, but I didn't get another one for about 20 years and that was the last that I got. I was kinda pissed at the three in one day though.. I can't remember what any of them cost.

Did 82 Kmh in a 80 zone on the A1 to Zürich and caught a 125 Frank fine and just recently got done for doing 55 in a 50 zone, still waiting for the fine for that.
Not gonna be as bad as the idiot who went 120 Kmh in a Ferrari through a village.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

I have been very lucky, no traffic tickets on the bike. In my car I haven't had a ticket this century, previous century not quite so lucky. I think the most expensive was around $150. Now parking tickets I seem to attract. I remember parking the bike in metered area 5 or 10 minutes before the enforced time ended figuring I would be safe and were would they put the ticket anyway, the bylaw enforcement folks carry elastics for just such occasions.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

I have lost my privilege to operate a motor vehicle three times since 1970 because of speeding tickets. Around 1973 or 1974 I got 28 points worth of speeding tickets in less than 6 months. A 140 mph in a 70 mph zone is the worst ticket I ever got. I can only guess what that one cost me between attorney fees, court cost & fines plus the cost of the ticket had to be well over $1000 over 30 years ago.

I have had three restricted licenses the first one was when I got the 28 points. It was for 12 months & I could drive between 6:00 am & 10:00 pm 6 days a week. No driving on Sundays. I was working 40 miles from home & I had enrolled in night classes at college (my attorneys suggestion) to get more hours. I appealed the hours for more & when I showed up for my hearing my neighbor (who was on the board) met me in the hall & told me to leave or I would have my hours reduced.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

Back in March I got a ticket in Gibson TN. It really upset me because I honestly thought the speed limit was 55. I wasn't intentionally speeding. Gibson is a very small burg, I went through town at 35 mph. Once I cleared town I assumed the speed limit went back up to 55 so I set my cruise on 58. (ok so I guess I was intentionally speeding a little!!) Not long after that I noticed the lights behind me, the cop stopped me and informed me that the state on TN had declared this zone a residential zone.

He gave me a break and wrote the ticket for 5 over but the fine was $150....ouch!!

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

I didn't get the most expensive ticket I ever earned. Coming through Atlanta, laid over and scraping the peg in the I-75 HOV lane. I backed it down a little as soon as I saw Officer Rolfing scrambling back into his cruiser.....the GPS still said 81.7 mph. Pulled right over because it was very obvious who was the target of his affection. Must be my charming personality that convinced him a 79 in a 55 warning would suffice.

Not sure what the fine would be for 27 over, but I figured it would be pretty damn steep, if not a trip to the cop shop.

Several hundred bucks for going 84 on a 50 mph road in rural VT at 6:30 AM.

But with it I took a misdemeanor conviction for unsafe driving and 2 Points versus a normal traffic conviction and 7 points. It seemed worth ti at the time.

The most expensive one I didn't get was April in Polk county TN. 68 in a 45 but he put me in the computer for 30 days. If I got stopped again for ANYTHING in Polk county this would automatically become a $250.00 ticket. Needless to say I always do the speed limit in Polk county now.

speed limits in parts of Texas are 80 or 85mph.
to get a speeding ticket, you'd have to really earn one.

I haven't had a ticket in over 25 years, but anymore I don't go more that 4mph over. If they go after me for that, so be it.

I was stopped for 125 in a 50 mph zone on Rabbit Ears Pass coming into Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Fought it in court and won. (Long story.) What is not clear in the original post is whether you include attorney fees in the total cost???

I just had another $385 dollars removed from my bank account for my ticket last April riding home from the STC. More often than not I'm usually not to far from having to have to ride a pedal bicycle to get around.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

So far, I have only managed to achieve one ticket. I am classified as one of the slowest Belgian riders on the road by my friends!

I was doing 70Kmph (40 mph) in a 50 kmph (30 mph) zone. The road was nice & wide, it looked like a 70 zone. I was caught by one of the best revenue earning camera's in Antwerp! Can't remember what the fine was - once was enough.

I knew one person who when they received a rather heavy fine, complained to the police that it was steep, the officer in question replied with compassion & understanding - "That is the intention!"

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

Summer of 1985.

Speed limit 55, created the hill, saw officer on side of road. He was ready to pull out in back of me. I slowed & pulled over behind him.

He said I was doing 73. We talked he said the fine was $125, but before he closed the book he looked at the bike and then said add another $15 for bike not having the right inspection sticker.

He then spoke to me about riding and his like for MC.

His next ? was how fast were you going before you saw me. I said I did,t know.

But, that the last time looked at the speed O, it read 105mph.

His next comment was, I have to move closer to the top of the HILL.

No Tickets since thank the lord. HOPE MY HOLDS

RIDE SAFE AND FAST.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

Summer of '77. Running 105 mph cresting an overpass on I-57, two state cops standing on side of road. I think, well, they're just setting up, but as I lean towards the exit ramp, the scramble is on. Do I stop or run? They've never caught me before...so I run. Bad choice. It took 10 local, county & state cops plus one airplane to get me, but they did.
They had 10 charges against me that was consolidated to reckless driving and fleeing.
Fined $340. Lawyer $500. Missed about 3 days work dealing with this. Total close to $1200 bucks. Got the fleeing charge dropped ( damn good lawyer) And a stern warning from my lawyer not to ride through that town again in my lifetime on a motorcycle. Well, I do now seeing that all those guys are at least retired by now. But the lesson was learned, never again.

1971, Near midnight, going 70+ over the posted speed limit to get home from girlfriend's house by parent imposed curfew. Multiple cars of Beaumont's finest finally stopped me. Got room and board provided by Jefferson County, TX for a few days. Total costs: $750 fine, $1,500 lawyer fees, angry lectures from my Marine corp dad, mother, sisters, girlfriend, and policeman brother-in-law.

Learned a valuable lesson in life. Now I'm the guy that puts people in jail.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

In '77 they lowered the speed limit on a stretch of road coming into Yuma, AZ from 55 to 35.

The very next day the law, county and state, set up radar and had a number of cars running down the folks they caught on radar over the new 35 limit.

I had just installed some new cams in my motorcycle and went out to see how good it would run. Trooper said I was doing 111 mph in a 35, see, here it is on the display and I was on the brakes hard. Was probably a little over 120. Had (2) pink sheets of paper, one for speeding and the other for reckless.

That was good for $400, 30 days in jail, loss of permit for 90 days. Paid a liar, I mean lawyer and ended up paying a $600 fine, no jail and kept the permit. Legal fees were in the $600 range. in 1977 dollars.

Insurance renewal got problematic for a while too.

Gets costly to have that much fun.

Have not had a speeding ticket on a motorcycle since.

not the most expensive, but $175 last night going through the state park at midnight. doing 42 in a 35. Trooper was at the bottom of a steep hill, pulled into a pedestrian walkway.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying " I'll try again tomorrow".

I plead the 5th... But what I can say is that a 1991 FJ1200 with flat slide and a pipe will red line top gear. The total bill here in MA was over $2000 with all the fees included. I got off light because I was in the service at the time. I did loose my right to drive here for 90 days.

The best I can do is pre-arrange drag racing back in 1976 on a KZ400. A high school friend was driving his Z28 Camaro. Lawyer I think got around 500.00 and got the ticket reduced to left of center with another court cost and the fine 100.00. Also had attend a driver safety course.

A few years ago I got pulled over as they had been looking for my bike for weeks. I had been going through cameras at 2am on the way home from work. The camera only showed the fronmt of the bike (No registration plate) . They laid in wait. Initially 38 offences down to 18 by the time it got to court. £900 ($1400) fine £600 ($900) costs. A years suspension, lost job lost home.
Total cost about £130000 ($200000)

Haven't had one since 1978. (Knock on wood). Largest one I ever wrote was for 84 in a 35. Best one I ever wrote was for 70 in a 30. I actually locked him in when he was airborne cresting a hill. Judge agreed that flying your girlfriends car constituted reckless driving.

1975 3:30AM no trafic 120mph in a 25mph zone 1968 Plymouth GTX 440cu Police sitting in a parking lot that was getting broke into alot said when i hit the crest of a hill that had a railroad track on it said i was airborne. Chased me and i spun out. They drove my car to the police station. Im pounded it. They asked me if the could search it and i said OK. Sent me home that night. Went to court judge says 90 day suspension $100.00 fine and 6 points for reckless driving. Talked to the clerk and she recommended
i talk to the Judge after every one else was done. Asked him if i could have traffic school.
He asked what it would do for me. I said it would help me alot. Outcome. Traffic school,$10.00 court cost no suspension. This Judge was the toughest one around. He became my Hero.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

Most expensive ticket was the first of this year in Bryan County, Ga.
85 in a 70 zone. 11:00 at night and no one on the road.
$465 is a bit steep; 2 weeks later, I'm informed by mail that I owe Ga. $200 dollars more for what they call "super speeder". Boy do I wish I were exaggerating! So, $665 is my claim to fame.

Re: What is your most expensive speeding ticket?

Got one 2 weeks ago for 52 in a 40 zone, 4 points and $225....was honest with the cop, told him I just kinda zoned out. He said if I come to court he would reduce it to 2 points and $88.
I've got a court date this Wednesday.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way.
I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
