RV trip NY to Fla

First let me ask if Mr Moderator would please not to move this post for a couple of days - at least til I get some replies. Thanks

The Galvin family - all 5 of us - are coming over the pond to do a road trip. Its a good way of compromising on my craving to do a big bike ride and a family holiday. Im really looking forward to it- day after day of lazy cruising

We intend to hire an RV in NY in early April and cruise down to Orlando over a 10 day period.

We have never even been in an RV before - never mind driven one nor have we camped in a US campground. Not worried about driving one.

Has anyone got any ideas of the following:
Best place to hire an RV (criteria - most comfortable and more toys the better)?
Must do places to go?
Best campgrounds?
Any other tips?

Tom

Ralph Gray here in Philadelphia. Being Australians and living here for 8 years, we have had many visitors who have tried to optimise a short stay to see the most they can. So can give some decent advice I think.

1. Have you been this way before and what do you know you want to do again with the family.
2. What time of year.
3. How old are the kids.
4. How many miles a day do they/you like.
5. Are you/they into scenery or "locations" more.

Anyway, tell me a bit more about what you want to do and I'll try and make some intelligent suggestions.......also, happy to meet up and take the family out to dinner for some decent grub.

GO West Ham!

Tom, Check out these two sites and ask your questions there also. Provide these people with as much info as you can.

Here's some RV rental places. You see the El Monte units with Europeans in them all over the west, I'm not sure about the east.

If it's cities and historic places (yea I know we only have 300 years of history) stay in the east. If it's a scenic trip, start in Los Angeles and tour out west. There is a Disney in L.A. also.

Tom,

Remember that New Jersey is just across the river from NY City, just incase you can get an RV there. The KOA campgrounds are nice for RVs www.koa.com . You are talking a 1,000 miles from NY to FL, give or take another 300 miles. You might want to visit Washington DC, our nations capitol. Lots of museums things to visit.
