Newbie filter????

Just a thought. Do we need a filter to prevent newbies with say less than than 50 posts from posting on a dead for years thread? Is it even possible?

Link to egregious offenses?

I wouldn't necessarily move to prevent any new folks from participation, but that's me.

Nope--I kinda figure anyone who has been around long enough to have almost 3,000 posts can't possibly remember anyway.

Re: Newbie filter????

They happen all the time, Not offensive usually. The latest time the thread was dead for 18 months or so. It happened to be a good thread. Just reminded me of all those dead oil and political threads that took a long painful death that was over due. then some newbie chimes in with a I use xxxoil too and love it.

Re: Newbie filter????

I guess I don't see the need for the proposed restriction. I recently posted to a thread that was 5+ years old - intentionally. I thought the update was relevant. A new member might feel the same way.

Maybe it's better to create a new thread on the same topic?

Re: Newbie filter???? WHY??

Many times I have started new posts, and after reading down a few realise it is an old thread. However, I see absolutely no real reason to try and stop this, as there are many newer members who never saw the original series, and may learn from it. Often there is new information relevant, surely better to add to an old series and keep the information together than to start anew.

Leave it alone!

+1. Means we'll occasionally re-read an old thread that has good info in it, butt since there is no longer any policing of the HoW pages/data, that good info is available 'only' by resurrecting the pertinent thread - either thru a proper search procedure or thru a mention in a related thread topic. There is so much more key information about the flagship touring model of BMW than can be found in the HoW - since policing of HoW stopped several year models ago - me thinks it's good to have a topic-resurrection by reference to old threads, by newbies as well as oldies!!

Hey - I resimple that remark!!!

Sure didn't hurt to discuss it, Brian. I wish I could put the neighbor kid on the payroll and have him clean up, and update, the HoW. Since we lost David Mack, the only attempt to do so wuz by Larry Schumer and myself - that didn't last long, cuz the pay sucked!!
