Question Short Ratchet Straps

Somewhere recently I read about a source for very short ratcheting straps, intended for tight spaces - like securing the front of a bike. I'm using a pair of typical ratchet straps on my lift, to hold the LT in a Condor chock; the straps are adequate for this purpose, but barely. The problem with regular straps is by the time you hook them up (from the bike to the tie-down point) there is too much length to make the ratchet work properly (that is, you run out of space to get the ratchet engaged). You can get creative with the strap setup but that takes time. A specialty strap with a very short ratchet end would be much easier to work with, and more secure. The length of the non-ratchet end isn't important, but I only need something with a total length of maybe 2'-3'.

I can't recall if I read about them on this site or in a m/c magazine, but in any event I've had no luck in searching here and on the web. Any clues where I can find such a thing?

Re: Short Ratchet Straps

Take them to a local upholstery/shoe repair place after measuring the exact amount of shortening you'll need. I'll bet a fin will get them sewn with a full box stitch in 5 minutes or less while you wait. Sear the cut ends with a lighter when you get home and you're good to go...

Re: Short Ratchet Straps

Of course. Wish I had thought of that. I've taken several things to a local shoe shop (old-school style) for repair; the owner is also a motorcyclist.

Thanks, Ron.
