Passed another personal milestone yesterday

From 2/11/11 to 2/11/12, I lost 100 pounds of body weight.

I used a simple approach:

No sodas, No exceptions. I used to live with diet mt. dew attached to my hand.
No Fruit Juices except Fresh Squeezed OJ & Organic Sour Cherry Juice. If I want other fruit juices, I eat the fruit.
No High Fructose Corn Syrup laden foods, removes quite a bit of foods from our diet.
No processed Sugar or foods with processed sugars.
No Gluten laden foods, removing as much gluten as possible.
No Fast Food, No Exceptions.
More Fiber rich foods.
Whole grain breads only.
More fresh fruit. Apples, Clementines & Oranges.
More organic dried fruits. Raisins, Sour Cherry's.
More homemade soups made with a wide variety of beans and other fresh veggies, lots of spices to keep them interesting.
One cup of Hot Tea every morning. We have it blended at Teavana, a local retail tea specialty shoppe. Contains equal parts Samurai Chai Mate & White Ayurvedic Chai. An amazing energy boost and my only caffeine source

In general, eating smaller portions more often, several times a day.
Walking 2+ miles a day, every day I can. I was running as well, but it made my lower back surgery site hurt way too much to tolerate, so I power walk for a minimum of 30 minutes non-stop.
Isometric exercises, focusing on large muscle groups. I sit on an exercise ball while working, keeping core muscles engaged while working.

Other choices that make a huge difference:
No manufactured antacids. I use Red Desert Clay instead. It has loads of health benefits.

No antibiotics, cough suppressants, prescription or over the counter cold/flu/etc. medications. I use MMS if I feel anything coming on. Stops it dead in its tracks within hours. My immune system is now strong and healthy. No colds, flu, fever, sinus or ear infections, coughs, bronchitis, pneumonia, fungus, etc. No Pathogen caused health events at all. Up until a year ago, I experienced the above maladies yearly since I was a kid.

No synthetic vitamins like one-a-day or the like. You can't digest or process them anyway. Only organic nutrients like those found in Fatigued to Fantastic.

Substituted Organic Coconut Oil for other cooking oils, keeping a small amount of Olive Oil for its positive health benefits.

After a lifetime of poisoning my body & mind with Fast Food, Processed Sugar, Preservatives and other food additives like High Fructose Corn Syrup, Processed Cooking Oils and the like; I've found a set of diet choices that work for me, and Sue.

Another observation: My GS has much stronger acceleration and more responsive braking.

Just though I'd share...

Congratulations. It is a lot harder to lose than to put it on.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying " I'll try again tomorrow".

Re: Passed another personal milestone yesterday

Feels good doesn't it Congrats on shedding the 100lbs that is defiantly a milestone! I didn't have a 100 to give(212) but between me and my wife we lost 99 and could never make it to 100. We are still at our goal weight 3 years later eating clean and often...6-7 smallish meals a day. Great job!!!

Re: Passed another personal milestone yesterday

That is excellent, Dave. WOW, 100 lbs.!!

We have two simple rules in our house when it comes to food: If you grandmother wouldn't recognize it don't eat it - and when at the grocery store - "shop the perimeter" (with the exception of the bakery which should have crime scene tape wrapped around it...)

You may want to pick up a subscription to Action Nutrition Health Letter - published by The Center for Science in the Public Interest. At $10.00 a year it is a deal, and I guarantee you'll read each issue front to rear. There is no advertising. The rear cover always has their "Food Porn" feature which is mind blowing. It features supposedly healthy food like this month's Campbell’s Tomato & Sweet Basil Bisque Slow Kettle Style Soup, which is pretty much poison... Right Stuff vs. Food Porn.

Congratulations on "owning it" - with 100 lbs. less baggage I'll bet you feel 20 years younger too.

WOW !!! Congratulations for a successful trip... It can't be easy... Sounds like your health took a hard 180 degree turn..

Just remember how long it took to get to where you were and know that is can take a while to get back to where you want to go. If you change too quickly your body finds it difficult to maintain the new you.

Your plan was awesome and it sounded like it worked... Again congratulations. Got some cloths to sell? New wardrobe!

Way to go Dave, congrats. Your diet sounds just like my cardiologist tells me. He did say ,emphatically, to stay away from carbonated soft drinks completely. He and I do enjoy a beer on or boats (in moderation of course) . Keep up the good work.

Re: Passed another personal milestone yesterday

Thanks for the update Dave & a big . Last year I put on 20 lbs. I have always been able to eat & drink (beer) as much as I wanted to for 57 years but no more. I'm not willing to give up beer but a change in food is possible.

Re: Passed another personal milestone yesterday

Great job, Dave. Definitely easier to put it on than take it off.

I joined the Y about 2 months ago. Only started going regularly in early Jan. My doctor advised cardio workouts for the time being, so I use two different style eliptical trainers, alternating one a day, an hour a day, 4-5 times a week, 5+ or 6+ miles, depending upon which trainer I'm using. I'm watching calorie intake and being careful not to put in too much. Carrot sticks are a poor substitute for potato chips, but I've made it work so far. At my heaviest, I was 269. 265 at doctor's appt. Jan. 13. After a little more than a month at the Y, I'm down to 252. This morning, I fastened a pair of pants that I hadn't worn in a year and a half, maybe two! They were stil on the snug side, but I'm determined they won't stay that way!

If you make it to STC this year, it'll be great to see less of you!

That's incredible Dave. You've lost the equivalent of an entire person! I was pretty happy with the 40# that I've lost but that pales in comparison to your achievement.
