A new kind of Hummer

Absolutely amazing... virtually impossible to detect that this is not a real bird in flight:

(they blew it though - a shot of it stopping and drinking nectar from a "flower" would have been priceless - but these guys are serious geeks, not marketing guys)

Could you just imagine if this was available when hunting down Bin Laden? This fascinating bird comes at you - right up to your face - you're mesmorized... and then

Re: A new kind of Hummer

That is something else Ron. I was heavy into RC model airplanes and boats in one phase of my life, but never anything like this.

Seriously cool stuff. I wonder how much noise it makes? You can hear it on the vid, but you can't tell if the sound has been dampened during recording/playback.
Damn, it's got a two stroke engine...

I would love to know how it's powered - apparently it can fly for 20 minutes which considering the amount of energy needed for this type of flight is amazing.

Hummingbirds drink nectar constantly during the day in order to support their incredibly high rate of metabolism - then go into a virtual coma at night when it gets cold.

The most amazing thing about the video is how the bird actually pitches and rolls when turning. You can clearly see this at the apex of the turn 47 seconds into the video when it is almost immediately overhead. I thought at first that it could only fly around a vertical axis. This is much more than a "hover craft".
