Another bike song.

Remembered an old motorcycle song that has never come up here. IIRC it's about the artists friend...

ARTIST: David Wilcox
TITLE: The Eye of the Hurricane

The tank is full, the switch is on
The night is warm, the cops are gone
The rocket-bike is all her own
It's called a Hurricane

She told me once it's quite a ride
It's shaped so there's this place inside
Where if you're moving, you can hide
Safe within the rain

{Refrain}
She wants to run away
But there's no where that she can go
Nowhere the pain won't come again
But she can hide
Hide in the pouring rain
She rides the eye of a Hurricane

Tell the truth, explain to me
How you got this need for speed
She laughed and said
"It might just be the next best thing to love"

Hope is gone, and she confessed
That when you lay your dream to rest
You can get what's second best
But it's hard to get enough

{Refrain}

We saw her ride, so fast last night
Racing by in a flash of light

Riding quick the street was dark
The shining truck she thought was parked
It blocked her path, stopped her heart
But not the Hurricane

She saw her chance to slip the trap
There was just the room to pass in back
But then it moved, closed the gap
She never felt the pain

{Refrain}

'Riding Songs' Playlist

If you remember back a few months ago, I created a 'Riding Songs' playlist on my iPod. The criteria was VERY strict. The lyrics had to be about riding or a particular bike. That very song made the list not once, but twice. I have the studio version, and an 'in-studio' live version. FWIW, the only other song that made the list twice is 'Vincent Black Lightning, 1952', by Richard Thompson.

Here's the list (again) in it's finished state:

1. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning; Richard Thomson - (Live)

2. Bad Motor Scooter; Sammy Hagar - (Live)

3. Ballad Of Easy Rider; Bruce Springsteen - (Live)

4. Bat Out Of Hell; Meat Loaf

5. Berry Rides Again; Steppenwolf

6. Biker Like An Icon; Paul McCartney - (Live)

7. Black Denim Trousers & Motorcycle Boots; Vaughn Monroe & His Orchestra

10. Cowboys Like Us; GeorgeStrait

11. Crazy Motorcycle; L.A. Guns

12. Don't Stop To Watch The Wheels; Doobie Brothers

13. Eye Of The Hurricane; David Wilcox

14. Haley's Got A Harley; .38 Special

15. Harleys & Indians; Roxette

16. High & Dry; Radiohead

17. Highway 49; George Thorogood

18. Ilfracombe; Hawksley Workman

19. Indian Motorcycles; Fred Eaglesmith

20. Iron Horse / Born To Lose; Motorhead

21. Jeans On; Keith Urban

22. Jesus Rode A Harley; Ugly Kid Joe

23. Kickstart My Heart; Motley Crue

24. Little Honda; The Beach Boys

25. Moto Psycho; Megadeth

27. Motorcycle Cowboy; Merle Haggard - (Live)

28. Motorcycle Drive By; Third Eye Blind

29. Motorcycle Emptiness; Manic Street Preachers

30. Motorcycle Mama; Neil Young

31. Motorcycle Mama; Sailcat

32. Motorcycle Mama; Sugarcubes

33. Motorcycle Man; Saxon

34. Motorcycle Ride; Rancid

35. New Sensations; Lou Reed

36. Ride; Joe Satriani

37. Roll Me Away; Bob Seger

38. San Franciscan Nights; Eric Burdon and The Animals

39. She Likes It Too; Alan Jackson

40. Speeding Motorcycle; Yo La Tengo

41. Still They Ride; Journey

42. The Motorcycle Song; Arlo Guthrie - (Live)

Wow, what a list. I think it's neat to have one list and have Merle Haggerd and Magadeth to gether.

You got that right! It's quite the variety...which makes it all the more appealing.

Hey Joe, here could be a few more for your list:

Motorcycle Mystics - Eurythmics

For Your Love - Chris Ledoux (Only one line in the chorus but it's: "Jump a motorcycle over a half dozen Hondas")

Motorcycle Bitch - Skyhooks

Motorcycle - Remy Zero

How about the old '50s/'60s "The Leader of the Pack"? Maybe you have some other criteria for your list, but this is certainly a bike song; even has some engine rev noises going on.

2009 BMW K1200LT - 60k miles
2012 BMW F650GS (sold)

Nope...The Leader of the Pack didn't make the cut. No reference of a bike in the lyrics...just innuendo.

Yea...I'm picky that way.

Not too many folks know about David Wilcox. Kind of a young James Taylor sound to him. I'd forgotten about the song until I looked over at a light and there was an old Hurricane sitting there!

I'm suprized I didn't notice him on your list Joe.
