patriot guard

maybe you've heard of the religious nut jobs who are crashing the funerals of soldiers killed in iraq and afghanistan? they are making life plenty miserable for families that don't need the grief. you can help the families by joining the patriot guard, which helps shield the families thru peaceful means.

regardless of how you feel about the war, i'm fairly sure you'll agree that these families could use some help. i signed up for the guard today and i encourage you to do the same.

My wife and I joined and went to our first funeral last week. Thankfully, there were no demonstrators at this one. Still, it was a honor to be asked by the family to escort the procession and to pay our respects. I hope the movement will grow and the families can be protected from seeing or hearing even one nut case.

I thought they were/are anti-war nut jobs, not necessarily "religious nut jobs".

There are probably a lot of them out there, each with their own motivation. But, the one who gets the most attention is a, so called, Reverend Fred Phelps of Kansas. He rants that God is punishing the U.S. Military - with these deaths - because they let homosexuals in the military. I've heard that the bulk of his "congregation" is made up of his extended family. They manage to travel pretty widely spewing their hate. I've heard this guy interviewed on the radio. It's truely scarey that someone this twisted is allowed to run loose.

I wonder if he feels the same wrath and damnation applies to incest, or if he just figures cousins don't count.

Whether you agree with the war or not, you don't take it out on grieving families. They have enough pain to deal with.

I saw that idiot on TV today. He was at a funeral for a fallen soldier. He was not ranting about the war in Iraq, but was ranting about homosexuals. I thought what a moron. The poor families lost a loved one and this moron was ranting on about homosexuals. The patriot guard was there and did their job.

Thumbs down Fred Phelps

To get a really disturbing look at how off-the-planet this guy is check out their web site; do a little reading, see a few photos. Should take... oh... 30 seconds to figure out what a (mutiple expletive deleted) goon this guy and his "congregation" are. I won't even list their web site here (whose name alone tells you where he's coming from), but you can pick it up by Googling him or from the Patriot Guard web site.

I commend the PG members who continue to restrain themselves when his protesters show up at a military funeral.

Kinda makes me think of the folks that were flying certain airplanes on 9/11 and their ilk elsewhere in the middle east.

And I think the key here is the word faith. When people decide to make choices based strictly on internal input they have a greater chance of making poor choices.

Hey Les,
I was honored to attend the funeral, too, though I could not make it to the cemetary. I see that the PGR now have 15k members. The recent publicity has garnered them much interest. Hope to see you soon under happier circumstances.

Blessings!

I remember this "reverend" doing his hate spew back when the Matt Shepherd murder trial was going on. We lived 'bout 3 blocks from the court house. That was a circus. Was a local group dressed up with broad, cardboard angel wings to block 'em from view - quite effective.

Proud to have signed up with the PGR already. Can honestly say, that's a call out I'm ready for - but not anticipating. ::salute:: to those that've turned out.

I've joined the PGR and plan to attend any service in the N. Texas area (though I missed the one near Austin today as I'm in Hong Kong at the moment.

I would disagree. It's the absence of Faith that disrupts good decision making. Because someone represents themselves as having faith does not mean they live that faith. The animals who flew into the Twin Towers can no more be called men of faith than this group who disrupts families in a distressed time.
